Comparison of Internet of Things features of Product A and Product B
Using Cisco Jasper is suitable for managing large numbers of cellular subscribers where manual management is impossible. If you are a prototype project with dozens of subscribers, it may not be convenient for you to deal with Cisco Jasper and opt for manual management. The use of Cisco Jasper is justified in a production and project monetization environment.
I consider myself very techy and found Google Cloud IoT platform very challenging to manage. The lack of tutorials and discussions to understand how each section works is very challenging. I specifically made a connection after several hours to Google Nest to third-party integration, Home Assistant. Shortly after Google Cloud upgraded to a new version breaking the connection. This was extremely frustrating. No service should take several hours to figure out, in my opinion, if it does, the platform is doing a poor job of making it easy. I'm personally very discouraged any time I ever have to use this platform. It's very hard to find answers.
For large companies with large-scale manufacturing, electronics management, and infrastructures that require lots of maintenance, IBM Watson IoT is a must-have. It greatly increases performance, decreases downtime, and is an all-around great management dashboard. This is best for infrastructures that have a larger infrastructures of IoT devices in an enterprise/manufacturing setting, otherwise IBM Watson may not bring many benefits to your team.
The asset information is available in both static and dynamic format (from thermal images, to OEM data, to time series data). The ability to ingest all the information using a single platform has great value.
Another benefit is a seamless integration with Maximo. This has been a challenge with other 3rd party systems available.
The experience of IBM Maximo systems updates is positive.
Some of the tutorials could use a little more improvement - While there is a considerable amount of documentation, most of the good documentation for Watson IoT we found to be from third-parties.
Administration and billing tools could use a bit more improvement - The UI is a bit clunky and poorly-designed here.
Be prepared to work with IBM support to get this going - Their turn-around support for inquiries can be lengthy, and setup time may also be quite lengthy because of this.
In our country, the subscriber management platform is not eligible since each cell phone operator opts for a particular brand, that is, we have not had an option, although we have no complaints about the platform, we feel comfortable using it. I know of other management platforms used by other operators and they are really all very well designed, but we all know about CISCO's track record in the market, which adds additional value.
Although comparisons are hateful, even more so when we are talking about leading brands where the quality of their services are indisputable, the general environment of Google was more familiar to me since I use, for example, Google Firebase on a daily basis, where part of the concepts are similar, without Without a doubt, AWS services are excellent, but it was easier for me to go through the functions of Google Cloud IoT.
Positive - This tool greatly increases most company's manufacturing and production efficiency, and the use-cases are extensive. It was a great way of decreasing down-time for us.
Negative - Took lots of work and energy to get up and running, we had to rely on IBM support and tutorials many times during this process.
Positive - Quite cheap, most of the tiers of pricing cost very little, and it's possible to use Watson IoT for a few months for free to see if it is beneficial for your company.
