I don't have any experience with any other security camera, just using the Meraki MV cameras

I've used their camera's and wouldn't recommend them for a business unless you have a lot more time to mess around with configuration and issues. They might be ok for home use but didn't compare to Meraki for our lobby need.

The cost was slightly under the other, and as I already have MX appliances, I wanted to keep everything under the same management platform.

We only considered Cisco Meraki MV2s because of their implementation, form factor, and cost. There was not anything else we found that was enterprise-grade that was in an appealing form factor and wasn't a local CCTV camera.

While the Ubiquiti cameras perform similar functions, their systems do not have the same integration possibilities as the Cisco Meraki MV cameras. They were more flexible generally.

Usually, Meraki MV cost is quite high, so you need to deal with an experienced Cisco partner to make sure you're getting the greatest discounts you can have, especially for larger deployments. In opposite, in very small deals, Meraki MV can be an attractive solution based on price as you don't even need to buy a NVR. Just like with Meraki MR (access points), you can get great analytics info from the solution, and even more with some third party solutions on top of it. As you pay for a licence, Meraki has a evergreen model so make sure to always have the latest and greatest features.

Cons
Cisco
  • I would it is best solution in the market but it would be awesome to have it integrated with badging system and when someone comes near the door, Cisco Meraki MV takes a pic and runs an algorithm at the backend to check if it employee or not if it is automatically open the door

The Cisco Meraki MV equipment and solution is one of the equipment that we have bought, setup, configured that is requiring minimal maintenance. It may cost more in subscriptions but it basically pays off by not requiring attention or work done by any of my techs. Easy to use and it just work.

Usability
Cisco
Very simple to use and set up. Just plug in the camera to a PoE enabled switch port that has a DHCP server behind it, add it to a network in the dashboard and you will start seeing the video feed. It takes longer to type this than to do the configuration

Support Rating
Cisco
The Cisco Meraki support team is very responsive and they escalate quickly within the team to find people who have the required knowledge. It can take a while to get things fixed if firmware of software changes are needed, but they keep in touch and do get there. The Cisco Meraki community is another excellent source of assistance and helped me when we initially used Meraki MV cameras.

Scalability
Cisco
It would be very easy to configure a new camera at another location, as long as someone at that location can do the install. The camera can then be categorized in the console. Different video walls can be created so you can group the video feeds by site or department, etc

Return on Investment
Cisco
  • Positive: Takes less time to review footage as the AI motion search allows for our customers to not have to wander through footage.
  • Positive: All in one software with the security cameras has let one of our customers increase their ROI but $10,000 annually as they no longer have to purchase separate monitoring software for security, it's all integrated.
  • If you're looking to save money out of the gate, this could technically be a negative impact as this solution does cost a little bit to get going with the cameras and the licenses, but they are multi year licenses (Which include support) that allow for you to incorporate your security for 3, 5 , 7 or 10 years into the future.
