SAP Master Data Governance is a master data management solution that helps users to implement a cohesive and harmonized master data management strategy across all master data domains. It is presented as a solution that simplifies enterprise data management, increases data accuracy, and that facilitates consolidation, central governance and data quality management. The SAP Master Data Governance, cloud edition, a…
SAP being a global ERP product supporting most of the business module, became one of the most popular ERP solution. The use of MDG module came in really handy as we could inter-corelate them & use easily with other SAP modules & data exchange becomes more easy and convenient
Collibra is well suited where you have multiple reporting environments and multiple source systems. Collibra works well in our environment because we can delegate roles and administration to departments or it can be used in a centralized environment. The ability to customize attributes and assets as well and integrate using the rest api is very important to us.
Best Suitable: 1. Good for us as we're bigger organization. 2. Places were high quality data & Compliance mandates. 3. Complex data management projects 4. To have better workflow in a place Less suitable: 1. For small to medium size organization. 2. For short duration projects/ requirements. 3. Non-SAP environments or limited ITIS team members 4. Also, to handle simple data structure
I like being able to create our own tables that aren't specified by the application; arranging data utilizing data spaces is a dream come true.
Using semantic data space instances with workflows improves performance significantly; firms with several domains may use the same application with numerous data spaces for master data management.
SAP (MDG) remains unique in the flexibility to model and manage master data the way it is used in the company, with all capabilities easily available through an intuitive user interface, and is not bound by the vendor's mandated data models.
As with all powerful and complex information platforms, SAP MDG does have a learning curve to it, especially if you plan on doing advanced things such as implementing MDM automation.
SAP MDG is capable of replicating data across many platforms (including non-SAP) however, this too, has a learning curve to it and will require some work. Bottom line...it doesn't just happen out of the box!
SAP MDG's flexibility can also be a weakness as sometimes you just want to implement a standard governance flow without defining everything from scratch. We have found that usually, you will need to define each workflow yourself in order for it to work properly.
MDG has proven to work and to bring results once implemented with the right approach, right engagement and sponsorship. Given that it is a very good tool to govern and control master data. Mainly if your company runs SAP systems which there will be a very straight forward integration, not needing any additional middleware or technologies.
SAP Master Data Governance(MDG) provides ease of use for the end users i.e. master data experts. It provides a good UI that is not SAP GUI. SAP provides support for any standard issues that we face. Their new set of Fiori tools helps us get more bang for our buck.
I haven't been using the support services individually. Instead, there are responsible units within the institution who train and support the users of the software in the institution. The service provided by these units are quite adequate and they probably get the service from SAP itself. That's why, I can assume that the support services are quite successful.
Collibra offers more features [than alternatives] and is easy for business users to use. We did a proof of concept with Collibra using the Cloud service that allowed us to kick the tires and get a comfort level before we made the investment. At the time of our purchase the market was very immature and is continuing to evolve.
It depends a lot on what and how we are going to compare. SAP Master Data, as I said earlier, is the most complete on the market and consequently for being the most complete it ends up being the one that most requires a high investment compared to what the other tools deliver. For example, it depends a lot of the business need, if it is a large company, I would certainly recommend SAP Master Data as it is complete, has an advanced security scheme, and has many options and facilities that other tools do not have.
ROI is hard to measure because there are so many soft benefits that come from the tool. We do have a variety of metrics that we track using Collibra to better gauge the maturity of data governance.
In this digital era , internet generating huge data ( master data and transactional data with pics and videos) if not managed with MDG product, ERP would become Junk data which results in expensive affair to" maintain, archive and manage disaster recovery "
