It enables the use of excellent built-in data analysis and reporting capabilities that the business needs at the management level to make corporate decisions based on data analysis. For a unified and reliable view of company data. To produce master data or change requests, it is useful for automated approval procedures. In SAP and non-SAP systems, this is useful for centralized development and management of master data.
  • It provides the benefits of bulk file transmission, proper validation, and error handling.
  • It's great to run our collaborative workflow and financial consolidation processes, which allow us to maintain master, vendor, and customer financial data, among other things.
  • It's a fantastic instrument that delivers excellent results in its services, however the membership costs are a little costly.
Creating a single master data record that can be transmitted between systems is practical. To make a CR for commercial activity that follows a procedure and can be tracked in this way. It works with the company's data quality and optimization teams to ensure that the data is consistent.
SAP Master Data Governance service is excellent, they are responsive and eager to help the business. SAP Master Data Governance is our best option for its methodology, tools, and the procedures required to generate and manage correct and consistent master data sets.

Sap Master data governance (SAP MDG), central government provides central ownership of master data in line with a company's business rules and processes. MDG delivers the domain-specific, out-of-the-box application as well as a framework for custom-defined master data. MDG can be deployed as a separate hub system or co-deployed with sap ERP. In both cases, and can use SAP and company-specific business logic to create master data ready to be used in a company's business processes. In our organization, we develop SAP EAM solution which is used in many organisations and companies. In retail, fashion, Artificial intelligence, machine learning, and many more domains we are thinking to develop in MDG.

Data governance is an enterprise-wide discipline with a vast purview. The picture of what data governance is getting easily muddled when you consider the many types of data: transactional data, behavioral data, performance data, temporal data, operational data, and many more. As an organization, we need a single customer view across multiple lines-of-business, for differing purposes. And those different purposes will raise questions as to the actual definition or meaning of ‘customer’. Master data governance allows a glossary of agreed terminology to be created along with particular metadata attributes which are used to define ‘customer’ and provide a standard and consistent definition across the organization. This reduces the scope for misinterpretation, misuse, confusion, and errors in the future.
Every organization is different. There can be no universal one-size-fits-all framework for master data governance, although there are key elements that everyone must pay attention to. These include transparency, maintenance, data ownership, change management, compliance, accountability, authority, auditability, data stewardship, standardization, and education. Many proponents of data governance have fixed models which have been proved to work in previous engagements. The issue is that many of these fixed solutions disregard your organizational capabilities. Use the steps in this infographic as a starting point for your master data governance journey

This software is used throughout the university. Educational departments use it for student, attendance, course management and the students use the software to follow the courses. There are other units such as finance department, Human Resources and IT who use the program to follow employee payments, official leaves, office/building/room reservations and communication. All official decisions, meeting notes and documents are completed and delivered using the system.
  • Financial records.
  • Students records and course management.
  • Institution wide communication services.
  • Human resources.
  • Difficult to manage all the features without necessary training.
  • Complicated interface.
  • Need for a strong internet connection.
A university is a body which has very different departments and needs. That's why, a higher education context is actually a very suitable context for SAP use. Instructors and students can use it even as a learning management system, while instructors can easily switch to the employee view to see their payments, leaves and other facilities provided by the employer. Human Resources and IT for example can easily communicate with relevant parties with a single software. However, for very small institutions which do not need expansion it may be too much to handle.
I haven't been using the support services individually. Instead, there are responsible units within the institution who train and support the users of the software in the institution. The service provided by these units are quite adequate and they probably get the service from SAP itself. That's why, I can assume that the support services are quite successful.

I have been using SAP Master Data Governance from the time I was at Nationwide organization [until] now at Cardinal Health. SAP Master Data Governance is being utilized across the entire corporation to visualize and model data during consolidation.
  • The self-service product access for business users is a great thing that we relish from SAP Master Data Governance. I have been in a better situation to understand business data without involving IT skills.
  • Improving data integrity by identifying data duplicates and errors.
  • Improving transparency by offering statistics that enhance confidence to us when making amendments [to the] large volume of data.
  • With the free vendor customer support team and SAP community channels, I hardly encounter issues while consolidating data with SAP Master Data Governance.
I would recommend SAP Master Data Governance to business users that want to improve data understanding to their business users. This tool will offer self-service information access to ease data [analysis].
SAP support has [a highly] responsive and knowledgeable success team that are just call-away and email support reps.

SAP Master Cloud Data Governance gives us the accessibility and management capabilities to several databases of the organization. It is the best solution available in the market to connect and control data movements from SAP and other compatible platforms. We have integrated our several DBs with SAP Master Cloud Data Governance and it is easily can be connected with Non SAP databases too without any compatibility issues. It has been very helpful for our organization in the management of organizational and personal data, the distribution process of the data is very effective as we can assign the users for relative access as per their job roles. It also has solved the problem of cross-departmental data sharing for business management. SAP Master Data Governance tool is available to multiple management and business-related sections of the organization.
  • Secure and easy data management system for multitude databases.
  • Data governance for multiple data domains.
  • Flexibility of integration with different platforms and databases.
  • The tool costs high for enterprise setups.
SAP Master Data Governance is very capable of handling a multitude of data movements and can be integrated into multiple platforms at once to bring stability and single window access to multiple databases. There are multiple benefits it can provide to any enterprise or business and help in overall efficiency boost across the organizational data management system. It is well suited for any enterprise or business.
SAP Master Data Governance has very good support directly from the SAP Support team, but there is not much community support available at moment for this particular product. The SAP Support is effective and responsive for this tool and communication channels are always open to respond to emergency situations.

SAP Master Data Governance is used by certain parts of our organization that use SAP A4 HANA. Kindly note that some parts of our organization use Oracle ERP and PeopleSoft and that's where MDG is not implemented for technical reasons. This tool helps improves compliance & risk management and business process outcomes.
  • Improves operational efficiencies
  • Improves compliance
  • Improves risk management
  • Improves data management
  • We have experienced some technical challenges needing rollback of build. This is due to poor design decisions and can't be attibuted the product itself.
Large organizations with multiple business units operating across regions and geographies will benefit greatly from SAP Master Data Governance. Companies like ours where acquisitions are a norm, we face severe challenges with IT Data consolidation due to too much duplicate data. Our procurement, finance and sales data go a huge facelift with SAP [Master Data Governance].
We have experienced great support from SAP for SAP Master Data Governance product. It was done together with SAP S4 HANA implementation and upgrade. By engaging with SAP on best practices, we have minimized the project timelines while also maximizing the value delivered to business.

Today we use SAP Master Data Governance only in one department. It is used as "Centralizer" of information, the master data department makes the necessary registration, and shares with the entire company. Today, they use some transactions for registration.
This registration is essential for issuing orders to new customers, to register raw materials, [etc.]
This tool is used in both Mars segments, such as the pet food and chocolate division in Brazil. I do not know if it is used outside the country, but I believe it is.
  • Organized.
  • Complete.
  • Diversity of information.
  • Complex.
  • Hard to use.
  • Mass export options are lacking for end user.
SAP Master Date Governance [currently] is only suitable for large companies. Not only for the costs, but for the robustness of the system, it contains and manages a lot of information. This is great for large companies, but for small companies, a system aimed at the small business owner is lacking. Currently you have to look for the solution in a not so safe software example (Excel). Because the cost of implementation and investment in the tool is high for a small business.
If there was a less complete and more objective tool aimed at small businesses, surely the reach of the tool would be greater.
I miss an educational forum, where people can discuss ideas and questions about the platform. Although we know that many things are customized for each company, it has many features and shortcuts that are global, and either you know, or you don't know. There is no content on YouTube or Google or [another] easy way to get these tips.

SAP Master Data Governance was implemented to control the master data governance for material, customer, and vendor. It was initially implemented for Brazil and then rolled out to the USA and Mexico. The main problems were inefficient governance process, bad master data quality, and lack of visibility and control. There was also a big challenge for managing MRO and non-MRO material in the United States with a very complex requirement of description generation.
  • Workflow
  • Rules enforcement
  • Data quality
  • User interface
  • Replication
  • Mass creation of master data
  • Load of customizing into SAP Master Data Governance hub
We believe that SAP Master Data Governance fits well in an SAP landscape with SAP systems. If you get a hybrid landscape with different data models, it requires a bit more effort to get the solution configured. All the existent validations and UI are SAP data model focused. The replication is also straightforward with SAP systems. I would say it is less appropriate if you only have non-SAP systems in your landscape.
Usually the customer support takes a very long time to understand what is happening, process your message, and give you a solution, and sometimes you expend a month and you don't get a solution, even with the high priority messages. I believe the customer support in SAP Master Data Governance needs a lot of improvement.

In 2014 our company decided we needed to modernize our master data governance approach. Part of this included moving to a technology platform that could enable us to implement intelligent automation and very clear global governance. SAP MDG is used throughout the entire company in more than 100 countries and is used for many types of master data objects from finance objects, to suppliers, to customers, and even including materials. Specifically SAP MDG has helped our company standardize our master data workflows thus simplifying our governance model while at the same time automatically catering for local legal differences. It also has enabled us to increase our data quality while at the same time use less resources (both technical as well as business resources). Finally, SAP MDG has enabled us to properly measure our data quality which is an important capability to successfully execute any governance program.
  • SAP MDG is a powerful platform that enables implementation of advance master data automation such as field auto derivation.
  • Like SAP ECC, MDG performs very well throughout all sites around the world.
  • SAP MDG comes equipped with the standard ECC or S/4Hana data models. This greatly simplifies rollout of the governance platform.
  • As with all powerful and complex information platforms, SAP MDG does have a learning curve to it, especially if you plan on doing advanced things such as implementing MDM automation.
  • SAP MDG is capable of replicating data across many platforms (including non-SAP) however, this too, has a learning curve to it and will require some work. Bottom line...it doesn't just happen out of the box!
  • SAP MDG's flexibility can also be a weakness as sometimes you just want to implement a standard governance flow without defining everything from scratch. We have found that usually, you will need to define each workflow yourself in order for it to work properly.
If you are in a large company, spanning many legal entities and are using SAP ERP as your main transactional system, SAP MDG is a great choice with many possibilities. Furthermore, if your landscape includes many products in the SAP family where data synchronization is required, it is also a great choice. If you are looking for a generic platform for data replication among many different non-SAP systems, you should careful study how this would work in practice. Additionally, if you are also looking for a data quality reporting platform, the combination of SAP MDG, Information Steward, and Data Services is very powerful and capable to achieve this.
For straight support of MDG and or how it interacts with the ERP system, the service is great. We use MaxAttention for this and have been very pleased. When looking for help for integration issues with satellite SAP products like Ariba, there is room for improvement here. The service is still available but the amount of iterations needed to get to a full solution are greater.

It is used by one department, but the organization is planning to use it across all departments. It's an enterprise-wide master data management application that is used to govern master data for business partners, products, etc. Constantly monitors the quality of master data and improves it.
  • One place for the whole company to look for master data info
  • Keeps track of missing attributes and provides reporting on data quality
  • Process analytics
  • Consolidates data to use best-matched records
  • If it's not managed properly, the same data could be placed in different places.
  • Hard to integrate with non-SAP systems
  • Hard to customize
SAP Master Data Governance is best suited to manage any master data across any enterprise. The availability to work with product characteristics allows you to define what is needed for each kind of product. Also, it can be used to provide data to third-party systems. In some cases, it is difficult to fit the specific and vertical requirements of certain industries.
SAP MDG is clearly focused on those organizations that have to manage a huge amount of data with several sources. It allows you to consolidate and update the data in one single place. Also, it can be used to provide data to third-party systems.

We use the product for all data management tasks within the university. We enter grades, we have employee services and even venue bookings. In terms of the departments, academic staff use the system for grading, attendance and employee services but it is also used by the students and the administrative staff to deal with specific tasks.
  • Employee services are great, especially the ability to control every aspect including leaves and feedback.
  • Grading is one of the assets because both instructors and students can easily follow progress thanks to the program.
  • Booking is another pro of the product. We can easily see which venues are available or which ones are taken and book accordingly and publish the bookings.
  • Attendance
  • I would only say being user friendly because it is a bit hard to figure out how to use it at first.
It is great for a university environment because it can be used to standardize the data collection procedures and some tasks.
Whenever I needed training or have a problem I always had someone to talk to.

We don't currently use SAP Master Data Governance (MDG) but we are in discussions to implement it to simplify the master data management. As we work in a retail company, we have to manage hundreds of thousands of products each season. Currently, creating and updating this master data takes too much time to maintain so we need a tool to simplify and speed up the product update process.
  • Consolidates all master data in one single place
  • Simplify the product data management
  • Keep track of missing attributes and provides reporting on data quality
  • Hard to customize
  • Hard to integrate with non-SAP systems

In today's companies with so many different industries and sales channels under the same ERP, it's very important to govern the master data working as the unique master data provider of the group.
  • Be able to manage so many different industries at one single place.
  • One only place for the whole company to look for Master Data info.
  • Enable a standardization of the processes in the company as all the master data is governed centrally.
  • In some cases, difficult to fit specific and vertical requirements of a concrete industry.
  • If it's not managed properly, the same data could be placed in different places.
The solution has fit perfectly with all the industries I worked in. The availability to work with product characteristics allows you to define what is needed for each kind of product. Providing a strong vertical solution with a transversal base.
It's a good transversal solution, but at the same time it allows you to have vertical and specific details. It's the perfect rules to be able to escalate the solution.

SAP Master Data Governance is used to centralize and harmonize the master data related to products. we have many SAP instances so it was a must to have software capable of harmonizing it.
  • Central point of information.
  • Completion rules.
  • Not very flexible to customize.
  • Integration problems.
The answer is mainly based on the volume of the data. In case you have a huge amount of objects (product, customers, ...) and every single entity has many entry points is a strong recommendation. The tool allows customizing alerts of completion and data quality that helps a lo having good data in the system,
Support from SAP was as usual, where it is eventually hard to reach a real expert but once you have, problems get solved.

It's an enterprise-wide master data management application which is used to govern master data for business partners, products, etc. MDG acts as a central hub that stores enterprise master data in one place. It maintains one source of truth and it replicates master data to all downstream systems as and when needed.
  • A centralized hub for enterprise wide master data.
  • Constantly monitors the quality of master data and improves it.
  • Consolidates data to use best-matched records.
  • No cons that I can think of.
SAP Master Data Governance is best suited to manage any master data across any enterprise.
