Overall Satisfaction with SAP Master Data Governance
SAP Master Data Governance was implemented to control the master data governance for material, customer, and vendor. It was initially implemented for Brazil and then rolled out to the USA and Mexico. The main problems were inefficient governance process, bad master data quality, and lack of visibility and control. There was also a big challenge for managing MRO and non-MRO material in the United States with a very complex requirement of description generation.
- Workflow
- Data Quality Rules
- Data Validation Rules
- Data Replication
- User interface
- Mass creation and update performance
- Replication of reference tables from S/4 or ECC to MDG HUB
- Improved governance
- Improved data quality
- Improved visibility
I have no experience with other products.
Again, customers who run SAP ECC or S/4 HANA can take advantage of having the same data models. If you want to implement a different object or a different data model, it gets a bit more complex to work with since everything on SAP Master Data Governance is based on SAP content.
In the customer landscape, we have used materials, customer, and vendor domains. Basically having the data models already in place for these domains expedited a lot of the project. Of course, it has needed some extensions, but having the start point in place saves huge time during the implementation of SAP Master Data Governance.
We integrate with SAP ECC and SAP S/4 HANA.

Using SAP Master Data Governance
50 - The business functions represented as per my knowledge are sales, marketing, for customer master creation, and Finance team in general to govern the finance objects such as cost Center, profit center and GL Account. For processing there are always the Data Organization to control and provide a final validation to the data.
5 - Usually, you need first and second level experts to provide a good level of support. Since some requests are critical and it may have some issues during replication of the data to target systems. All support team members provide support to all domains. There are no specific domain teams to support the operation.
- Data Governance of Customer and Finance Master Data
- Data Quality enforcement across the business areas
- Single Version of the Truth
- By now there are no innovative ways
- Support company Cloud Systems data governance
Evaluating SAP Master Data Governance and Competitors
Not Sure
- Integration with Other Systems
- Ease of Use
The main point was the native integration with our SAP System was key for the SAP MDG use. It integrates easily with these SAP systems and also it can integrate with non-sap systems. Considering a company running SAP ERP, bringing MDG would reduce the training efforts and other time-consuming activities.
SAP Master Data Governance is a good tool and connects well with other SAP Software. However, it is an expensive product which demands a lot of negotiation to get interesting deal. For this process I would not change, since how goal was achieved successfully. In the end the overall product must bring value to the company.
SAP Master Data Governance Support
Pros | Cons |
---|---|
Problems get solved Kept well informed | Slow Resolution Escalation required Difficult to get immediate help Need to explain problems multiple times Support doesn't seem to care Slow Initial Response |
There is no premium support in my company. It improves a lot the service and expedite since you have a representative to support you and intermediate. However, to get this premium support is quite expensive and needs a broader number of systems to be worth it not only MDG. Otherwise, it does not worth it the price.
I think we have never received an exceptional support from SAP at least based on feedback from colleagues. It always average, they have so many technical components and so many issues that when it reaches to a developer it takes time to get it processed, get the problem analyzed and solved.
