Dokku
If you have your own in-house servers or have a cloud server with the freedom to configure any PaaS that you want, then Dokku is for you. So far, I have never run into a scenario where Dokku was not able to fit my needs, after deploying many different types of applications with varying frameworks, languages, and connected services. If you already have a PaaS available, however, Dokku may not be for you.

Well Suited:- Development of information architecture/library. It enables better classification/taxonomy, leading to more intuitive findability.- Dialog design and content retrieval for virtual agents. (e.g. a virtual agent whose content offerings are not hard-coded into the response fields, but instead require crawling/drawing from other pages/libraries)Not Well Suited:- Annotation/labeling/clustering of information that will be retrieved using a different search/query service.

Pros
Dokku
- Dockerfile deployments are an incredibly simple and straightforward way to spin up applications.
- The docker-options plugin allows endless direct configuration of options passed to different docker lifecycle stages.

- Keeps things more standardized, ring fenced and thus easier for the end user to use
- Open source, allowing for a wide group for education, auto and support
- Developing at pace to keep up with the ever changing needs of the industry from on / off premise, public and private

Dokku
- Dokku might overreach on its assumptions about how you want to host your app, using its own VHOSTS plugin by default. This may be a pro or a con depending on what you want.
- Proxy port configuration can be somewhat difficult, with Dokku resetting any pre-deployment configuration to "smart" defaults on the first deployment.

- Sometimes the API Connect GUIs don't cleanly disengage after attaching models or updating schema and it is hard to know what has been written successfully and which (if any) models or tables were missed. I shouldn't have to manually check through a list of 377 models to find the ones in and out of a list on either models, folder or database tables. Printing a summary even in logs which did a "diff" sort of thing between 'task-set' and 'task-completed' (referring to attaching models or updating schema as tasks here as 'tasks').
- Provide access to Postgres Database in Sydney datacentre for Australia.
- Clearer documentation around setting up a secure (referring to SSL and certificate setup here) server on eg, chubby1.au-sydney.mybluemix.net.
- Allow a ramp in pricing onto the Blockchains. We will not be able to afford it until quite a few years into production, even if we launch successfully.

Dokku is incredibly well documented and also takes advantage of the documentation and community of Heroku, being essentially the same thing, but in the case that you encounter an actual bug or issue, it can take time for a fix to make it into a new version. Since you manage Dokku yourself, there is no support team to call for help.

Dokku is essentially the same thing as Heroku, except maintained by you on the platform of your choice. If you have any experience using Heroku, then you will feel right at home using Dokku. Dokku is an entirely free to use PaaS, requiring only that you have a platform to deploy it on, making it far more versatile than Heroku in my opinion.

I like when the provider offers cloud deployment via standard orchestration mechanisms (like Docker, Kubernetes, DCOS) This is currently well covered by Azure. Amazon also has good flexibility (supports Kubernetes, DCOS). It's good that Bluemix added support for Docker and Kubernetes, but addition of DCOS would be great to complete the offering.

Return on Investment
Dokku
- Since there's no investment besides a little time to set up, the return has been overwhelmingly positive.
- Deploying a new app is incredibly quick and easy.

- Bluemix has allowed me to effectively serve the App industry more recently, especially with the new visual design implemented recently.
- BlueMix offers a lot more customization of the Platform, rather than Infrastructure, giving me a big edge over other companies offering only AWS or Azure cloud services, and brings a lot more apparent value to my business.
- The additional features, especially the Watson service subset offers a HUGE range of new and innovative technologies, especially in the realm of AI, that encourages my clients to test out new potential features, which leads to more sales as they increase there platform size and capability.
