PrinterLogic
Chose PrinterLogic
The web interface for Vasion's PrinterLogic is very intuitive and makes it easy to set up an office. Each print queue can be configured quickly and the settings to push out queues is simple.
Chose PrinterLogic
Vasion's PrinterLogic doesn't control the actual print queue, so all jobs stay local. The ability to easily deploy printers while keeping all print jobs local was a requirement which the competitors did not do as well.

I cannot think of a use case where a local print server makes more sense than a product like PrinterLogic. Managing print servers is not fun, and it involves a plethora of issues and repetitive tasks that take significant time to complete. I cannot think of an org or colleague I wouldn't recommend this product to - in fact, most IT teams already have this product that I talk to!

  • Setting drivers can be tricky sometimes especially if we are trying to downgrade to a certain version
  • Some HP printers (older ones) have had trouble but we intend to update those soon.
  • Pushing out the software via Entra - we had some initial difficulties.

It has done everything we needed it to do, and the technical support at Vasion has been very responsive. Most of the staff, faculty, and students are used to it now, and it is quite easy for Endpoint Engineering to support at a fairly low FTE cost. We don't see a compelling reason to change and in fact are looking at managing more aspects of our printing ecosphere through Vasion's PrinterLogic.

There have been precious few instances where PL hasn't done what I needed. Some small reporting issues that I need aren't there (a poll of which printers are installed on any given computer in our Org would be a godsend to see who installed what)

A colleague has reported a performance issue with loading printer profiles on Edge. It sometimes takes a very long time to come up, and sometimes not at all, but he switches over to Chrome, and the interface comes up very quickly. This might be a fringe case, since I am able to launch the same profile on Edge browser without any problems.

Support has been phenomenal from the start. They walked us through the entire setup during our demo phase - had us do the work while they guided us through it. That really helped us to understand the product and later make changes and additions as we needed it. The documentation is perfect. I had ZERO issues or hiccups when integrating Entra for users and groups.

Implementation over summer break is best in order to completely understand the process and test the product in a small "live" environment vs at a larger scale.

It's been 5+ years since we last conducted an evaluation, and I can't recall who else we evaluated. That statement should speak volumes to any sysadmin. It's a system I don't have to worry about or get complaints about. Literally not interested in looking elsewhere.

Initial cost for 1 year renewal was fair pricing. However, this year's renewal cost is quite a bit more expensive than expected.

  • Mostly the only thing we deal with on printers now is the physical printer issues.
  • There were no calls about everyone's printers not working when the print server went down, as there is no print server!
  • Making it easy for the users to be able to install their own printer.
