Likelihood to Recommend

Grammarly

Grammarly is a step ahead of the traditional spelling and grammar checking tool that is in-built with Microsoft Word. There are scenarios when you have to write long-form content, and depending on your normal day-to-day way of speech, you tend to write content using the same tone and sentence constructs. There may be nothing "wrong" as such, but Grammarly points out those small glitches in your text, which you considered to be correct but is not really correct. One such area is the usage of "passive voice" in the sentences that I used to write. I find Grammarly really helpful here.

Linguix

I think Linguix is a solid proofreading service. It comes at a good price vs. its competitors, which I think makes it a good buy. If you're someone looking for a helpful tool to check your writing online and fix your errors, then Linguix is a pretty good bet.

Pros

Grammarly

  • Integration with existing tools - Grammarly works in practically all text areas across your browser, including email and things like Google Docs, etc.
  • Quality control - the meat of Grammarly is checking your text and writing in real-time, directly as you type. Most of the time, Grammarly provides very accurate recommendations and quality checks on your text.
  • Analytics and reporting - Grammarly sends regular updates via email about your usage statistics and other detailed info. This type of reporting can be very helpful in tracking your progress over time.

Cons

Grammarly

  • I tried the paid version briefly and didn't find the suggestions to be as helpful as I'd hoped.
  • I really like the way Grammarly works overall - it would be nice if the free version gave just a little more attention to use of passive voice.
  • I'd love for Grammarly to point out whole sentences that are hard to read or comprehend.
  • I'd love for Grammarly to offer an overall sense of readability for one piece of copy.

Linguix

  • Consistency in tool availability.
  • Tone of voice tool would be a nice add.
  • Working on Google Docs.

I can easily access it in Word by clicking on the menu widget - where I do most of my writing. (Would love one for Powerpoint too???)

I have not really used customer support. I used the FAQ page to see how to re-install Grammarly because it wasn't functioning properly in longer documents. It seems to be working better now, but it still does not always underline all of the issues in the actual text. Thus, it is sometimes difficult to know where the errors are located.

Alternatives Considered

Grammarly

I have not used anything like Grammarly before and that is probably why I love it so much. It works very well for what I need. Plus, it goes above and beyond. I don't need it all the time but it is great to use in any communication occasion. I love it

Linguix

I use Grammarly and Wordtune as well. They all have their own strengths. Wordtune is great for helping change tone or rephrase things. Grammarly works almost everywhere and does a good job with pinpointing tone of voice. Linguix is a good all-around spell check and typo catcher. I use all three tools because all three are good.

Return on Investment

Grammarly

  • As it is a beginner-friendly and easy-to-use software with increasing demand, it positively impacts the business, freelancers, and students.
  • It is an expensive tool; therefore, it's difficult to buy a premium version for students and new freelancers.
  • I have checked around a million words. It mails reports every month to keep you updated with your work.
