Considered Both Products
inriver PIM
Chose inriver PIM
Our previous systmes are the brandmaker PIM and DAM. I have used it for quite a while and the advantages on a technical architecture perspective is that importing of products from Brandmaker it needs to go first on a SFTP server before it goes on our website and that brings us …
Chose inriver PIM
When I compared these other PIM platforms, I found several were not true PIM systems. Although they solved for some significant syndication challenges, they did not have the ability to build a relational databased across products and categories. Furthermore, the interface is …
Chose inriver PIM
inRiver [PIM] seems to be a mid-pricepoint program. The UI is certainly the highlight but the functionality seems to lack when it comes to mass-maintenance of large amounts of information that reaches across Items/Products/Categories/Assets.
Salsify
Chose Salsify
Their support/purpose is different from each other
Chose Salsify
Salsify was the clear winner when it came to a simple interface that allowed a multitude of uses for the organization. The others weren't structured in a way that we could easily allow new users in and were intimidating at the start. The syndication abilities and continual …
Chose Salsify
I was not directly involved in the purchase decision process to acquire Salsify as we started using it after it, but I can tell the Team decided on Salsify for a number of solid reasons including functionalities, price, integration options, and usability. Otherwise, we would …
Chose Salsify
One of the best software I've used as it's very agile and integration is seamless via APIs. On top of that, it really aids in my day-to-day tasks, and better management in workflow, and it helps me keep things organized and it delivers on the features that you don't normally …
Chose Salsify
We have not used alternatives. None seemed to have the feature set that Salsify offered.
Chose Salsify
Salsify gives you the most flexibility and is easier to use than the others.
Chose Salsify
Continex was a microsite and many of our accounts wanted to stay consistent throughout their site which this would not let them do. Salsify allows them to use our assets but in their own template so everyone is happy!

inriver PIM is well suited for growing companies that might have multiple brands, categories, languages and a complicated data model. inriver PIM is more than a syndication service, which is important to differentiate from other so-called PIM providers. I specifically like the ability for ecosystem collaboration across multiple technology platforms. However, inriver, is a complicated system and requires an implementation partner, which could price it out of the range for some companies.

Besides the obvious need for a lot of technical resources in the form of technical support and specialist hours, and also from probably a long timeframe of deployment time. The resulting tool might have the power to change your organization as the Product data "source of truth", which means in other words, to have all your product data and management in a single reliable tool. Looking forward this change will definitely pay out and make it possible to update product offerings and respond faster to changes moving forward.

Cons
  • Missing the ability to be able to right click an item/product to open in a new tab
  • Mass Asset/SKU management is not an out-of-the-box feature
  • Shared folders area - few options to create a specialized area that you can block other users from deleting

  • It needs more ability to limit viewing or editing of certain attributes by user or user class. I understand this is in the pipeline.
  • Responsive design. It is not usable on a phone (various iPhone n+ models). I NEVER prefer to work in Salsify on my phone, but it would be nice to be able to in a pinch.

Usability
It's really easy to use. There are no confusion on the user experience and the interface, very straight forward. If you want to change environments it's a simple dropdown. If you want to publish or put an item to draft it's just a simple click of a button of the family/item's status

I am only giving it a 9 because they are working on streamlining the uploading process to make things easier on our end - once this is complete I would most likely give it a 10!

Salsify was the clear winner when it came to a simple interface that allowed a multitude of uses for the organization. The syndication abilities and continual additions of new channels were one of the biggest selling points.
