Considered Both Products
BMC AMI Ops
Chose BMC AMI Ops
Better interface, more intuitive. Reduced costs
Chose BMC AMI Ops
I use BMC AMI ops every day. It is an important tool to understand mainframe performance and measuring impact of applications and changes.
Chose BMC AMI Ops
Omegamon is user friendly to use
TMON is more powerful with History collection in batch.
Chose BMC AMI Ops
I think BMC AMI Ops is better than OMEGAMON in all aspects, but SYSVIEW is a good competitor. SYSVIEW is easy to use and responds quickly. The decision to use one or other product has been more financial and administrative than technical.
Chose BMC AMI Ops
The stack is directly competitive to those solutions offering a broad list of capabilities with a unified interface and intuitive experience.
Chose BMC AMI Ops
BMC AMI Ops was chosen because of its reporting and alerting capabilities
Chose BMC AMI Ops
It is only supported on VMWare and less entirely on a solution for traditional capacity planning. There was more of a strain on VMware in terms of cost and comfort level in ramping up with the solution, which was why we selected BMC AMI Ops.
Chose BMC AMI Ops
We use IBM's resource measurement facility in the past. Compared to that the BMC is more user friendly and has more feature set
Chose BMC AMI Ops
BMC AMI Cloud and Data provides a data resiliency solution for the cloud. It is for customers looking to 1. backup their decades-worth of data stored in physical or virtual tapes to Cloud storage (AWS S3), 2. perform analytics and business intelligence to run targeted customers …

You can track CICS task, take actions on them if some are hang or looping. You can go to the past because activity is recorded ans all metrics are available later. You can do correlation between CICS/Db2/MQ when you have CICS transactions doing access to these domains. You can set thresholds or alarms on some metrics to take actions or be alerted when exceeded.

Cons
  • Some of the data in java (or web) is presented in what looks like the original ISPF panels. Functional, but not pretty. Keep the same info but make it more presentable
  • More online help on field. Or expanded help
  • perhaps an option for fewer screens for novice users

  • The UI needs a lot of improvements to meet today's standards while keeping the functional part highly performing as it used to be
  • Being unable to run reports through the workgroup security manager is a serious con, I think they need to consider giving it more attention
  • the auto-monitoring feature performance goes low when it's enabled during a heavy workloads, it leads to a lower/heavier performance, but during the latest update I feel it got lighter somehow.
  • They also need to give more attention to the encryption and enhance it with the latest encryption technologies

Usability
The software is definitely powerful but it is complex at the same time although it has good functionality and real time insights which provide us good information regarding mainframe systems to our team but at the same time it is not intuitive and clean as modern cloud monitoring platforms also too many options and layers impacts the overall usability of software
