Overall Satisfaction with BMC AMI Ops

We use BMC AMI Ops to monitor our mainframe applications and the mainframe environment. I find the BMC AMI Ops provide all the available information and in a detailed manner. I appreciate that there are several alternate interfaces to basically the same data. It depends upon your comfort level. Either ISPF, java or web-based.

Pros

  • Monitor Db2 application activity
  • Monitor Db2 application history
  • give overall info on the mainframe and LPARs

Cons

  • Some of the data in java (or web) is presented in what looks like the original ISPF panels. Functional, but not pretty. Keep the same info but make it more presentable
  • More online help on field. Or expanded help
  • perhaps an option for fewer screens for novice users
  • Quickly identify problems when they occur
  • Highlight what are possible solutions or changes to minimize or fix the problem
  • Provides data that can be shown to managment
The ISPF is functional and looks like 1995, which is fine. That is what ISPF interfaces are like. The Java interface is more modern and resembles 2010. Not bad, the web UI is best, very modern, and accessible.
Using this tool, I am able to reactively and proactively monitor my environment. It is very good at helping me find what I need to know! Especially when I have a problem
I use BMC AMI ops every day. It is an important tool to understand mainframe performance and measuring impact of applications and changes.

Do you think BMC AMI Ops delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with BMC AMI Ops's feature set?

Yes

Did BMC AMI Ops live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of BMC AMI Ops go as expected?

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy BMC AMI Ops again?

Yes

BMC AMI ops monitors the environment and environment components very well. Db2, zOS, CICS, etc. It is not immediately helpful for understanding the application context. Of course, that is not magic. The end-user (me) must know what they are doing, what the userids are and whatnot ,and how to relate to informal application names
