Overall Satisfaction with BMC AMI Ops

I use it mainly for checking LPAR capacity, to monitor and end CICS transactions and tasks, and performance issues. From the same ISPF interface I can connect to any of our systems or CICS regions.

Pros

  • Monitoring and taking action for CICS tasks and files.
  • Switching to the view of other systems or regions.
  • Navigating to previous panels with PF3.

Cons

  • Showing information from past periods of time.
  • Online help (PF1) for available commands on each panel.
  • Measurement of CPU percentage used by jobs.
  • Negative: Not effective use of archive data for historical displays, it takes much time and hangs.
  • Negative: The installation method through the installer is not friendly.
  • Positive: CICS issues can be identified, diagnosed and fixed promptly.
  • Negative: Applying passcodes is more difficult than desired.
There are useful commands that is hard to know they exist, it could be addressed with a better online (PF1) help.

The ability to connect to any system or regions is very useful.
No really improved. BMC AMI Ops does fairly well what it needs to do, but I've not seen more than that.
I think BMC AMI Ops is better than OMEGAMON in all aspects, but Sysview is a good competitor. Sysview is easy to use and responds quickly. The decision to use one or other product has been more financial and administrative than technical.

Do you think BMC AMI Ops delivers good value for the price?

Not sure

Are you happy with BMC AMI Ops's feature set?

Yes

Did BMC AMI Ops live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of BMC AMI Ops go as expected?

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy BMC AMI Ops again?

Yes

Everything with CICS panels is great, and very intuitive.

For performance it is not very intuitive, I'd like to have a simple but effective overview of who is consuming CPU and who is being delayed.
