PitchBook vs. uberVu (discontinued)

PitchBook is excellent for building a rolodex of contacts, especially for firms which may be newer and lacking an established reputation within their given industry. I have used it as a tool to identify groups which may be interested in equity investments in one-off real estate deals, though the platform more prominently features groups which are more interested in programmatic/JV fund structures. PitchBook can also be useful as a tool for identifying industry trends, as it tends to capture creation of new funds and their investment appetites at any given time.

I liked uberVU a lot, and thought I was lucky to have found them (they actually responded to my tweet when I was vendor-searching, which was good to know as they were doing just what we were planning to use the software for). They are relatively small, which allows to have a great personal relationship and we felt very valued as a client. They provided great value - some of their competitors allow for more features (which explains their higher price), but there was no way to opt out of the unnecessary features to lower the price - uberVU didn't have any of that, it was just what we needed and in our price range

• Historical deal dynamics detailing pricing and financing as well as which parties worked on the transaction
• Initial screenign on public and private comparables
• Breadth of private companie details including descriptions, financials, etc.
• Ability to filter / sort and eventually export details on private companies

• Easy to see what people are saying on social media about clients.
• Creates reports that can be limited to certain time frames.
• Able to see the reach of users so you can breakdown by influencers.

• It would be nice to have the best parts of the deal tab merged into the general information tab for a company.
• If possible, gather more information on certain executives. There are use cases where our clients want us to research candidates who may not have much information on LinkedIn or RocketReach.

• I honestly didn't have any issues with them. Being able to set the real-time alerts as "every 15 minutes" took some figuring out to do, and we were still in the trial mode while we did that - it wasn't particularly intuitive for other users, but once we walked them through, everything worked well.

I find it a great tool in the digital strategy world to see what people are saying across social platforms. It's much more efficient that doing a search on the platform itself and provides a lot of information extremely quickly

I think its a great platform as is. Its usable and we get most of the information as and when we need. I don't like the landing page after login, so I don't like to go to PitchBook every day to review daily updates on the industry. It's way too cluttered and requires MFA every time

All the users found the product intuitive and easy to use.

A couple of times it was a little slow, but this didn't result in any negative impact for us. There was no downtime as I could recall or notice.

The overall support for PitchBook is about average. It is not excellent for two primary reasons. First, PitchBook can run slow from time to time, and I cannot copy and paste from the Chrome extension. I have found neither of those issues to be a function of the computer I am using. However, the PitchBook support team has proved helpful on several occasions.

Every time we needed help, the support was great. We had no issues, mostly needed usability walkthroughs and had questions about features.

I got the training while I was evaluating and in the trial period. Then I trained the others myself

Not applicable since it is SAAS - all we needed was to sign up, which was easy

I also use SignalNFX, but it doesn't exist in the dropbox. Signal is a much more practical tool when it comes to a preliminary search, and when it comes to connecting with the right person. It scrapes your gmail history and linkedin to find who you're really connected to and figures out how to leverage that to get an intro. Sales NAVIGATOR is better for massive outbound, but not very relevant otherwise. PitchBook's real value is in the database. It won't help you reach out, but it sure will find you every single VC firm that could ever invest in your company.

Radian6 and Brandwatch were on the short list. We picked uberVU for its combination of price and features. It did not have extra features we didn't need, they were customizable and flexible enough to meet all of our needs

• It has allowed us to be more targeted in our sales campaigns.
• Great headhunting and market mapping data.
• We have been in a very difficult hiring market so it hasn't given me the ROI I would have hoped, but that isn't PitchBook's fault!
