Overall Satisfaction with PitchBook

In our business we need to have access to all of the current market information, and also the people that are making that market work.
On a daily basis we review deal activity, market trends and also reports that are produced that our audience might find useful. Keeping our sales narrative fresh and interesting.
PitchBook levels the playing field for young disruptive independent businesses like ours.

Pros

  • Accurate and detailed deal descriptions
  • The ability to compare similar businesses in a given market
  • Full exec board visibility
  • Access to financials
  • News articles

Cons

  • It would be useful to search by service provider i.e. lawyers or corporate finance advisors by sector/date/deal size
  • The pricing is high
  • Contact data could be better
  • It has allowed us to be more targeted in our sales campaigns.
  • Great headhunting and market mapping data.
  • We have been in a very difficult hiring market so it hasn't given me the ROI I would have hoped, but that isn't PitchBook's fault!
Tobias Hill-Summers and Shyan Al-Barzangi were exceptional. My onboarding was carried out by Toby, who remained in contact throughout my time with PitchBook. They were very human and approachable. They were happy to answer my easy and difficult questions and responded to issues very quickly.
Exceptional is probably the best way to describe the customer experience.
We used PitchBook in a number of ways.
Firstly we reviewed deal activity, and identified funds, indivduals and service providers associated with that deal activity.
We researched other portfolio companies within funds and mapped talent throughout both current and prior.
We tracked underperforming portfolio companies against investment thesis and used this for outreach.

Its a brilliant but complicated system. Using it as an individual was quite a lot, you need to remain disciplined and focused on what you want to get out of it as it can be overwhelming.
The search functionality is intuitive and the output is great.
I didn't use a Chrome extension as I didn't need to.
PitchBook has a far broader and richer source of data.
Looking retrospectively at company/fund performance was incredibly useful.
I also like that there is a 'rumour' element to the news.
PitchBook has slightly better quality contact information.
It is the more expensive of the tools.

I thoroughly enjoyed using the platform and intend to come back. One downside was that as a small business there wasn't enough time in the day to use it as much as I would have liked.
As a market mapping tool it is brilliant, as it is for client profiling and general market awareness.
For sales narrative it's brilliant.
