LRS can be expensive. It supports all kinds of printers and models. One location for drivers for the printer. You do not install a printer driver at each workstation. It uses a central driver stored on a server. Easy management of printers. Can be deployed through SCCM or other products. It can be expensive for small businesses. It has been designed for large enterprises.

Great for users that frequently travel between offices. Users can log into their device and get the "local" printer installed based on their subnet. Alternatively, users can choose to send their print to their folder to be accessed on whichever printer they choose. It does this securely which is great for folks in healthcare settings

    Pros
    Levi, Ray & Shoup (LRS)
    • VPSX is license based on the number of printers. You can have multiple VPSX servers. They do not charge extra for software licenses. As long as the total number of printers does not exceed a certain amount.
    • It has secure printing features that are really great. There is an additional cost for secure printing. We have about 150 secure printing licenses out of over 2800 printers.
    • You can manage multiple VPSX printers from any VPSX web login. As long as the configuration is corrected you should have no issue.
    • It can be integrated with AD. All groups and members are defined in AD, then at the application level, you can grant access to manage the product.
    • It can give you granular access for managing printers based on your company policy and requirements.
    • Upgrades are simple and quick.
    • Support has been outstanding.

    Cons
    Levi, Ray & Shoup (LRS)
    • Centralize reports. It lacks reporting tools.

    • We would like to move all of our print accounting into Vasion's PrinterLogic, but there are some features we use in Pharos that Vasion's PrinterLogic is still building out.
    • The repository can get a little unwieldy if too many people are adding drivers. An internal check to see if a driver for a particular printer is already available would be a nice feature.
    • Direct authenticated release of print jobs from the printer device would be a nice feature.

Hands down one of our best investments for our IT staff. This has saved so much time and frustration and it well worth the cost. If the budget starts to gets tight, this is one of the last things we would cut out. We also purchased this through our copy machine vendor so it's nice that the charge is integrated with our copy machines lease

Interface has been very easy to use and figure out. Reports to see printer usage is helpful in finding or relocating printers that are over/under utilized and can save funds on continually supplying printers where maybe better utilizing the equipment already deployed will provide cost savings. Being able to make a change in one place and that change is replicated to all devices has been nice and easy to do.

A colleague has reported a performance issue with loading printer profiles on Edge. It sometimes takes a very long time to come up, and sometimes not at all, but he switches over to Chrome, and the interface comes up very quickly. This might be a fringe case, since I am able to launch the same profile on Edge browser without any problems.

Support is great. They can hold your hand if you do not know. The support staff is well trained. If the support is unsure, they will bring another SME to help out right away. After hour support is quick to respond to the call.

Whenever I've contacted Vasion's PrinterLogic support the responses are always rapid and thorough. The support staff is knowledgeable and always happy to answer any questions I have. Most of the time we needed support was at the beginning of our implementation. Our account rep as well as technical support were skilled and responsive.

Implementation over summer break is best in order to completely understand the process and test the product in a small "live" environment vs at a larger scale.

We were using HP printing and Novell iPrint. VPSX was really easy to manage and it was more efficient for Einstein.

This doesn't apply since I haven't used another printer management tool, app, or system. Vasion's PrinterLogic is the only one we actually used here in our school district. I don't have the ability to select different companies or vendors, but with my experience with this software, it's been hands down the best. Especially for managing all of our copiers here in the school.

Initial cost for 1 year renewal was fair pricing. However, this year's renewal cost is quite a bit more expensive than expected.

    Return on Investment
    Levi, Ray & Shoup (LRS)
    • Less FTE to manage products. It requires a minimum day to day maintenance if the setup is done properly.
    • We can review from the dashboard to see how many printers are having an issue. Number count.
    • It requires some time to learn the product.

    • Mostly the only thing we deal with on printers now is the physical printer issues.
    • There were no calls about everyone's printers not working when the print server went down, as there is no print server!
    • Making it easy for the users to be able to install their own printer.
