This product is perhaps typical of something that seems as though it was conceived in the 90's and has seen various appendages since, none of which do their job particularly well. Nothing in this system is efficient and all its processes demand a huge, close to maximum possible level of human effort. No doubt many companies, such as my own are spend huge amounts of money for the debateable privilege of tripling their employees workload and making them as inefficient as possible to make the administration of the system seem more important than it actually is.
SAP PLM is well suited for any industry that needs to track the creation of a product from the raw material stage all the way to the shipped product. I do not think it would be well suited for very small companies which do not have any materials, products, and inventory to track.
Well Suited scenario is we do not have to rely on numerous experts having vast horizon of industrial expertise to estimate the products and services. We have this AL/ML solution in place which can look after us without much interaction or manual support. Not well-suited scenarios are: If any service or product can have a complex structure, a hyper metadata set needs to be generalized before estimation with the inputs from the open-source platform data so in this case estimation process need a lot of interventions, customization and still, we get a large deviation. That is not a good thing for any business to work on. We might end up with an entirely different cost than one which is estimated from this software.
I appreciate how the products are created and adjusted. For diverse enterprises, there is a simple interface and ease. Reports and exports for a set of BOMs are additional useful features.
Windchill is an extremely verbose and unintuitive system, with masses of unnecessary duplication of fields, convoluted workflows, unclear roles and terrible search capabilities. It is one of the worst software products I have ever seen to propose solving something that is actually factors quicker to do with manual writing and paper work
Windchill is having a great market share & its UI is simple & neat, integration with Creo & ERP system. These are the main reasons of considering Windchill by our organization.
SAP PLM encompasses SAP BW and SAP PRD. We tend to focus more on the SAP PRD portion as it directly involves more closely to production. We selected SAP PLM because it gives us a great visibility in the life cycle of materials, products and overall costs. SAP PLM compliments the other packages very well
SiliconExpert has wide variety o supports and suggestions which are required in each and every step of the product development lifecycle. So it's a complete solution to bring support for the entire product lifecycle and a relief to us. Managing, tracking, generalizing reports, generating, and sending timely alerts are some of the beautiful features which stack up to make SiliconExpert a best choice.
Saves time as all of our drawings and business instructions and procedures are housed in a central location with check-in/out capability and version control.
Accurately able to order raw materials which are necessary for the current production run, thus reducing overhead.
The negative impact would be the initial cost of the software and how long it would take to ROI that cost.
It has allowed us to control batches of product creation much more closer and have the ability to cut some erroneous costs which were found in large batches.
