Quest QoreStor vs. Scality ARTESCA vs. Tencent Cloud File Storage

The product can be run on-premises or in the cloud. It is a fantastic option to reduce the size and storage requirements of backup jobs. If your backup system can already produce a reliable reduction in storage up to 75% then I would say the QoreStor appliance would be irrelevant in your case. It does not perform backups itself. It is simply an extra step to reduce size, encrypt and offload backups to the cloud. this reduces the load on a backup system to handle other tasks while the QoreStor takes over.

The team in charge of implementing Scality has to be full stack in order to guarantee the correct functioning of the entire system. However, you have to think very carefully about the balance between servers and disks, perhaps adopting smaller fully populated servers instead of large semi-populated servers, which would mean that over time our disk updates will not have a fully useful life.

As an organization, it took us a while to understand the shift from a traditional black box SAN to software-defined storage, but now we are much more certain of what this means. When I evaluated the Dell system it was an entirely new server on-site, with licensed levels of inlocking the storage it had on board. For a smaller organization, the Dell system was not cost-effective with a large upfront payment, and additional hardware to manage on-site. The QoreStor system was a virtual machine that could pop into my current system and just use allocated storage already in place. In addition, the upfront cost was dramatically less than the Dell option and no additional hardware

Due to the nature of our business we require extensive encryption and availability for sensitive customer data. The erasure encoding that Scality provides gives us the assurance that documents are rest are never in a state of being downloaded or available to a casual data thief. This is something that can be found with other vendors but at a fraction of the same cost. Having this kind of performance, availability and redundancy at the cost that Scality provides has made a large difference to our organization.

The cost of purchasing this platform and maintaining is relatively low as compared to similar tools.
