SAP Integrated Business Planning vs. SAP Predictive Analytics

One of the best parts is how it is suited to global or multi-site organizations with complex supply chains. It just operates across multiple regions with various manufacturing facilities, and that too with very much ease; it is simple, solid and very reliable in terms of working when the logistics is an issue and fetches data and insights very quickly.

It's a great tool to merge actual data analysis (which Lumira doesn't do that well) with visualization (which Lumira does well) - so it can be seen as Lumira for data analysts. However, a lot of the 'predictive' side is hidden/black box which can be frustrating for those analysts, so you could argue it is too complex for casual users, but too 'black box' for analysts.

• Comfortable database, it adjusts to what we know how to use.
• The platform acts quickly, and throws metrics and analysis adjusted to the times we need, thus automating the results.
• Complete and detailed reports, we can dynamically evaluate all the information.

• It doesn't require you to have a Ph.D. to build models!
• You can use it to address a very large and wide dataset without worrying about sampling.
• Automation is in the product DNA. You can prepare your data, ingest it into the "Kernel", then get insights about what was found, decide to publish it and schedule scoring tasks or model refresh in the same product.

• The system does not work as smoothly when processing large volumes of data. There are processing delays when we are busy planning.
• Moreover, because inventory exceptions are not automatically alerted, employees have to check them manually, which takes extra time. Upgrades in these sections could raise our operational efficiency.

User experience has various issues, from the way to represent data on the Dashboard to complex graphical interfaces for making the right report of something that is easiest to make on other similar platforms. SAP Integrated Business Planning is difficult to integrate into other operating systems and ecosystems. Activity planning, in some cases, is confused, and access is limited if customers or end-users don´t use the platform over the internet using a desktop computer.

The documentation provides an explanation about what features are available but not necessarily what's happening behind the scenes. On the other side, the "community" has grown since the acquisition and most questions are properly addressed by SAP folks. Since the "product maintenance" mode announcement was made, there wasn't much new content published except on the Smart Predict side (which is built by the SAP Predictive Analytics team)

Set up a supply chain strategy. Define your north star. Follow it with good consultants. Get know how from consultants with a deep know how in the system. Do proper change management.

Well at least, the cost factor und the implementation time. 4 month from the decision to the productive use. This is overall being accept very fast! SAP Integrated Business Planning definitely increased the quality of our data and decision making process.

We have typically used Spotfire for data analysis but decided to move to SAP Business Objects due to its innate connection with SAP. I found Lumira to be good for visualizations but it is not meant for data analysis. Therefore, we have introduced Predictive Analytics to see if it can fill that gap. So far, it's been far less intuitive than Spotfire to get started, and as far as I am aware so far, it does not bring many additional capabilities. I do, however, like that it utilizes the Lumira look/feel and integrates very well.

• The biggest positive is improved forecast accuracy; now, I can work in a structured manner to reduce my costs and anticipate demand for the products.
• Now, one certain item is that the Enhanced Data Quality is helping us a lot in making quicker decisions and a faster work life.
• The sales and operations teams are aligned now in a much better manner, and work is faster.
