A Review of Adobe Firefly

Rating: 8 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use Adobe Firefly to produce images for sale on Adobe Stock and other stock sites. I use any of the various models available, in addition to a number of the partner models, especially Gemini 2.5 and Gemini 3. I have also used Adobe Firefly to produce a handful of videos that I eventually uploaded to Adobe Stock, each of which met Adobe's quality standards.

Pros

  • Works particularly well within Photoshop with Generative Fill and Expand.
  • Low cost relative to the type of one's Adobe Cloud subscription.
  • The advantage of Adobe Firefly's production of multiple results compared to partner models, though with the expectation that edits will sometimes be required.
  • A relatively easy to use user interface.

Cons

  • Forum posts indicate that individuals new to AI need more clear instruction on how to find tutorials.
  • Recent forum posts indicate a number of users are experiencing bugs, though it is difficult to tell from their posts if they are using Adobe Firefly correctly, given the sparse details they provide.
  • Continued efforts to train Adobe Firefly, particularly with photo realistic images and the human anatomy.

Likelihood to Recommend

While Adobe does and should establish policies with regard to censorship of certain types of images and words used in prompts, the restrictions do at times seem arbitrary and random, with little feedback in such cases as to what issues in particular are causing problems. For example, if using a reference image of a child to produce a video is forbidden, it would seem simple enough from an AI point of view to explain the limitation to the user.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

For business purposes, I use Adobe Firefly via the actual Adobe Firefly app, as well as via Adobe Express and Photoshop to help me to speed up the time on basic brainstorming for visual ideas.

Pros

  • In Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Firefly does a great job with the Remix Tool which expands the length of an audio music track while matching notes and adding more beats to its length. The transitions are seamless, and after the generation is completed it is difficult to distinguish the new beats apart from the original composition.
  • In the Adobe Firefly, I use the standalone app to create graphic variations and visual concepts for quick mockups to streamline design ideas. This process helps me to speed up the creative process and to work more efficiently. It also presents me with additional creative ideas to incorporate in future ideations.
  • In Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Firefly is wonderful with the 'Generative Fill' which uses prompts to enhance an original image by adding complimentary content, replacing content, or even removing the background or content from an image altogether. The result is extremely realistic and amazing.

Cons

  • Adobe Firefly could add some improvement by making people look more realistic. Some of my prompts resulted in people's faces or body parts being distorted, or missing fingers. When this happens I find that if I resubmit the prompt a couple of times with more direction the final result often comes out better. But it would be nice if I could get a good result with one or two prompts tops.

Likelihood to Recommend

In my experience, I found that using Adobe Firefly was well suited for video editing in Premiere Pro due to its ability to help me streamline my editing process. For example, if the music track is shorter than the video track the Remix Tool helps to expand the music track (with cut points) to match the length of the video, and the result is always professional and polished. In addition, Adobe Firefly has also helped my video editing process when I was in need of better b-Roll. If the b-Roll I am using is subpar, all I need to do is give precise prompts of what I desire, or use the 'Image to Video' option along with a prompt to have Adobe Firefly create b-Roll footage. And I can keep tweaking the result via additional prompt directions. After I am satisfied, I can export the video and then import it into Adobe Premiere Pro. The entire process makes working on a team or as a freelance video editor quite productive.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use Adobe Firefly to quickly create new ideas, make assets and to just have fun creating art.

Pros

  • Easy to start using, either through the website or through the Adobe apps
  • Easy to explore ideas and create proof of concepts
  • Generally good quality

Cons

  • The quality could be better sometimes
  • Easier to adjust details to get it exactly as I want it

Likelihood to Recommend

It’s very suitable to fix minor details in photography, such as removing distractions, or to create new ideas quickly. It can be very well used to create proof of concepts and further refined in the other Adobe apps. I also like to use it to create assets to different projects.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use it for brainstorming and ideation mostly, it allows a quick visualization of ideas, I use Adobe Firefly boards a lot and I find this easy to use, and very intuitive. Creating images and visuals with Adobe Firefly solve the issue of the legal AND moral rights of generating content with AI as I know it is sourced from Adobe stock

Pros

  • Easy workflow
  • very clear interface
  • a lot of evolutions and updates

Cons

  • I would like more details in the images
  • the results are sometimes not so cohesive
  • more options for video

Likelihood to Recommend

I think for professional use it is the best because of the way it is "safe" and sourced via adobe stock. it makes it a no brainer for professionals designers and company who needs to create commercially safe visuals. I find other generative images can be higher quality, have more variety of styles, though Adobe Firefly has improved a lot in this regards.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use Adobe Firefly for image creation, it does a good job of bypassing stock imagery and I can get closer to the idea I am seeking for photography based ideas. I also use it for text to audio creation when using Animate to generate sound effects, It does an admirable job of both and only keep improving

Pros

  • Image creation
  • Audio Creation from text
  • Animating imagery from a still image

Cons

  • Maybe suggestions to help when a prompt is not working, audio sometimes is hard to nail.
  • At present I can't fault the imagery, I would like assistance to understand all the settings though, that could be improved, it's a little daunting at first impression
  • I would like the deconstruction of imagery, where I can upload and have it describe to me so I can 'learn' how it sees

Likelihood to Recommend

I feel that when a designer like myself needs to use stock imagery to set a scene or focus on an element then it is difficult to wade through images to find the right one. If you are looking for a set that supports a style then it makes it even tougher. Adobe Firefly really helps to compensate for this by allowing that time to be spent honing a style and set of images to the place you want them. This is a priceless asset to any designer and makes this task much more enjoyable,

Always Room for Improvement.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Firefly to ideate concepts and retouch images.

Pros

  • Concept ideation at scale.
  • Simplifying complex retouching.
  • Offers a variety of models to choose from.

Cons

  • Model failures persist with no resolution.
  • Generated result resolution varies depending on model.
  • Service is unavailable for long periods.

Likelihood to Recommend

Firefly is getting better with the addition of third-party models. Where Firefly was failing, specifically in people generation, the new models are excelling. There are still issues with model failures, and when that happens, the model is useless. The advent of video generation is a new option that allows us to animate storyboards or concepts without a large onboarding process.

Brainstorm with Adobe Firefly

Rating: 7 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I used Adobe Firefly to generate images and short form videos. The business problem is finding unique artwork, limited stock photos and copyright issues for image use in marketing material.

Pros

  • Generate first image to capture description
  • Brainstorming
  • Storytelling images and videos

Cons

  • Prompts worsen as changes in key details are incorporated into prompt engine
  • For images, illustration style doesn't stay consistent.
  • Unneccessary character details and background are added/removed, leading to more confusing prompt generation

Likelihood to Recommend

Great for image generation, but bad for video generation because of limited credits for creating videos. Subscription led to 400 credits and only 10 8 minute videos
