What is BigMind DR?

BigMind DR — Local Disaster Recovery for Windows

BigMind DR is a local Disaster Recovery and Disk Imaging solution for Windows developed by Genie9. The platform is designed for IT professionals and regulated small offices in the legal, medical, and accounting sectors that require local Disaster Recovery capabilities without cloud dependency.

Core Features
BigMind DR utilizes Block-Level Imaging technology to capture system snapshots, intended to facilitate recovery from hardware failure, Ransomware attacks, or data loss. The platform includes a Ransomware Canary feature, which utilizes decoy files designed to provide early notification of encryption activity.

The solution supports app-consistent backups for SQL Server and IIS to capture databases and web servers in a consistent state, intended to mitigate data corruption risks. USB recovery media creation allows for restoration from a single bootable drive, including support for dissimilar hardware via cross-hardware restore capabilities.

Data is protected using AES-256-GCM encryption. The Boot Verification feature is designed to validate image recoverability prior to a disaster recovery event.

Pricing and Plans
BigMind DR is offered in three tiers. The Free tier supports five users and one device each with daily backups. The Plus plan ($59/year) supports 10 users and one server with an 8-hour backup schedule. The Pro plan ($119/year) supports 15 users and three servers with hourly backups, support for all VSS writers, and automated rules. The vendor offers lifetime SKUs for the Plus and Pro tiers.

Key Differentiators
BigMind DR utilizes local storage, which avoids per-GB fees and cloud-related infrastructure costs. The vendor states that the per-account pricing model is more cost-effective than the per-endpoint models utilized by competitors such as Acronis and Veeam.
