Use Cases and Deployment Scope

ExtraHop helps fill in the network security gap we have to comply with NIST security framework. Each day our security team receives thousands of alarms which are hard to filter through but with the aid of AI through this network detection and response they are able to filter through the false alarms.

Pros

  • AI Security
  • Packet storage
  • Friendly UI

Cons

  • Customer Support
  • Incident response
  • Threat mitigation

Likelihood to Recommend

ExtraHop is going to replace our packet capture and storage technology since it not only detects network security breaches but can also have sensors installed throughout our network to look at historical packet captures for analysis. ExtraHop is well suited for threat mitigation, network segmentation, and threat analysis of the network.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use ExtraHop Performance Platform to analyze all the traffic within our datacenter. As well as watching traffic that leaving the datacenter to our coworkers out in the wild. We have so many people developing and deploying apps and servers. It can be difficult to get a big picture of where our data is going. This tool allows us to see everything and possibly avoid a data breach.

Pros

  • Sniffing packets
  • Detecting services
  • Analyzing trends

Cons

  • Detect even more apps/services
  • Improve UI navigation

Likelihood to Recommend

ExtraHop Performance Platform helps analyze the east west traffic within our data center. It helps us find the dependencies that may exist between servers. Such as a certain application may have a database it relies on to store it data. This is helpful for maintenance windows when patching is done. We know which servers should be taken down at the same time and which can be done on their own.

ExtraHop is the way

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

ExtraHop [Performance Platform] is used to monitor the internal network across several corporate locations. We use it to analyze and decipher the traffic to determine if any anatomies may be occurring. In addition it is used to solve various program and programming issues. Example is SQL queries and how the perform on the network.

Pros

  • SQL query analysis
  • Packet analysis
  • Look for unusual network activity

Cons

  • A lot of information, not that its a bad thing
  • User interface could be a little more user friendly

Likelihood to Recommend

One very big use is the ability to resolve performance issues. One example used was with the performance of sql issues. ExtraHop [Performance Platform] gave us the packet tracing ability to see the database was being queried incorrectly. A programmer has written a query that would bring the database information local and one the queries instead of allowing the sql server itself to do the work and push out the information.

Great tool for App analysis and troubleshooting

Rating: 7 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Enterprise uses ExtraHop Performance Platform for several things. It is used for reporting on IT utilization (servers, apps, services). It is used to diagnose issues occurring with applications and services. Finally, it is used to capacity plan for apps & services.

Pros

  • It is very good at making it easy to find root cause for app issues.
  • It provides very good stats, graphs, and diagrams of IT utilization.

Cons

  • I find the UI to be challenging to use. It is not intuitive.
  • Documentation is not great. I have to call tech support a lot (but their tech support is outstanding).

Likelihood to Recommend

Great for diagnosing App issues (i.e., is the problem at the network, web, app, or DB tier). Particularly at finding sources of latency in the transaction path. Not as good at discovering packet loss or connection failures, but it can be used for that.

ExtraHop the way of intelligence health monitoring solution.

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Extrahop is being used by multiple business groups in my organization, especially it's playing a critical role for network operation team to monitor the end to end service performance and stability for many critical business services.

Pros

  • Extrahop can perform health monitoring end to end if you have multiple probes deployed in your network, the intelligence engine can easily help you to compare and data collected from different hops and help you to narrow down the issue to a specific part of your end to end network.
  • Extrahop is not just analyzing and monitoring the health of the network, actually, its deep-dive analysis engine can perform an analysis from the network layer up to the application layer. It's easy to identify the root cause whether it's a network issue or something wrong in the application, save the time to have the issue go around again and again between network team and application team to blame each other.
  • Extrahop provides good programming functionalities allowing the user to do their specific programing to meet the requirement of how they design to better operate the service.

Cons

  • Some person like me who want to see Extrahop can integrate better with other network analysis tools like Wireshark or TCPdump. The desired functionality I've been looking for is to program a kind of specific criteria to trigger the probe starts to run Wireshark or TCPdump to save the trace of a specific problematic session. Sometimes I want to see the evidence in a packet trace layer rather than just have the warning or error only presented in the dashboard.

Likelihood to Recommend

ExtraHop is quite useful in service-performance analysis and monitoring continuously, 24x7 to fit the business requirement, However, it's something different than Wireshark or other network analysis tool. I prefer to have them used together.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We are using ExtraHop to monitor our network traffic and network device performance. In the past we have tried to use similar tools to ExtraHop but they all required agents. ExtraHop is agentless and provides a wealth of information regarding network traffic. The networking team uses it to diagnose and troubleshoot isuees among other things.

Pros

  • Monitoring Networking Traffic down to the device, switch, or sever level
  • Security Operations via threat detection and monitoring
  • Triage and Troubleshooting of issues and potential issues

Cons

  • Search functionality could improve
  • Legacy devices show in the app even after they are removed or decommissioned. This can be confusing
  • Support is decent but not great

Likelihood to Recommend

ExtraHop does a great job of managing the network traffic and being able to track issues problems to a granular level. It also helps our security team with potential network vulnerabilities/issues. The tool is very powerful and can be leveraged to solve many business problems from networking to application performance; it allows you to identify the root cause.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

ExtraHop is mainly used for performance monitoring and threat identification. It is used by a cross functional group ranging from Business, Dev, DevOps, and SecOps, as an objective "source of truth".

Pros

  • Agentless deployment
  • Real time alerts (e.g. performance degradation, ransomware, etc.)
  • Pre-configured objective dashboards that establish "the truth" about what's going on at many levels - network, application, comm.

Cons

  • From the trigger automail, it would help if there were a shortcut (one-click) access to the drill down screen

Likelihood to Recommend

1. Third party reporting (e.g., to clients)

2. TechOps performance monitoring

3. Threat identification
