What TrustRadius Research Says

Fivetran Pricing 2022

Tech teams work with an endless influx of data nonstop and need to access it just as frequently. One common way to make it easier to access your data is pulling it from all the different sources, and loading it into one place. Fivetran is a fast and powerful platform that allows developers and analysts to gather all their data and transform it into one easy-to-access location.

What Is Fivetran?

Fivetran.com is a software-as-a-service (SaaS) vendor, offering its flagship product for data integration and data transformation. You can use their platform to extract data from your various data sources and load it into their data warehouses.

The platform is classified as an ELT, which stands for extract load transform. ELT providers offer faster integration because the raw data is loaded first and then transformed. In Fivetran your data is put through a data pipeline that automates and transforms it.

The reverse option is an ETL provider, which means extract transform load. This service takes more time because the data is being transformed before its loaded into the data warehouse. It also includes more manual maintenance as well.

Fivetran goes into more detail about ELT and ETL in their blog post here. This post provides details about the benefits of using a modern ELT system. Some of these include being able to use structured query language (SQL) for data transformation instead of scripting languages, automating long processes, and more reliability.

The company HVR was acquired by Fivetran in October 2021. HVR is a data replication company and together with Fivetran, they offer services for fast replication for high data volumes.

How Much Does Fivetran Cost?

Fivetran offers a pay-as-you-go pricing model. This means if your team’s workflows fluctuate you will only be charged for direct activity.

Usage is determined by the number of monthly active rows and your total number of rows per month. Editing or adding rows will make them active.

Fivetran does have subscription plans but the prices are all estimates. They will change depending on how much overall monthly usage you use.

Fivetran offers their subscriptions monthly or annually and can be purchased with a credit card or invoice. For more pricing information about Fivetran, you can see their helpful FAQs section here.

For Starter teams of up to 10 members get 200 fully managed data connectors for creating rows, analytics prepped schemas and prebuilt data models. This service has no usage caps, and allows 1-hour syncs. In terms of support, you get 24/7 Fivetran support and the ability to set user permissions.

This plan is far from a bare-bones beginner service. It's ideal for startups and more established small businesses. You will easily be able to manage real-time data and optimize your data stack for your team.

This plan does not have guaranteed uptime, managed connectors, or as much security compared to the other plans. If you just want to hit the ground running and maximize your data then this plan is perfect. If you need more important long-term features you should consider other tiers.

The Standard Select and Standard plans both have all of Starter, service-level agreement (SLA) for guaranteed uptime, and fully managed database connectors. You also have secure shell (SSH) tunnels for encryption and Fivtran’s Rest API for access to client and server-side data.

Standard Select has a cheaper setting than the Standard plan. The plan is limited to only one user and has a usage cap of .5M MAR while Standard has unlimited users and no usage cap.

These plans are split into two different choices so that teams that don’t expect to have more than one developer or don’t want to go over on usage have a more affordable option.

Enterprise is faster and more secure offering all Standard features, enterprise database connectors, and SLAs for support and delivery. The Enterprise database connectors include an Oracle database connector for faster integrations.

Fivetran offers multiple specialized database connectors including those for LinkedIn Company Pages, Salesforce Pardot, and HubSpot. You can find the full list of data connectors here.

The Business Critical has everything in Enterprise, along with access to HVR services and stringer security. In this plan, you have access to private links for AWS or Azure data sources, and your own encryption keys.

This is the plan if you want the most data protection Fivetran can offer. If you don’t have cloud computing data sources, the need for HVR services, or the highest protection this plan will eat your budget for no reason.

It’s no breaking news that Fivetran can be very expensive, but there are more affordable options.

Is Fivetran Cheaper Than Other Competitors?

To put it simply, Fivetran is not the cheapest option for data integration. There are direct competitors with pricing models that do undercut Fivetran. Hevo Data is one such ELT platform, and they even have a freemium version.

With Hevo Data, all plans have unlimited user seats, unlimited integrations for data sources, and single-sign-on (SSO) security. This is already very different from Fivetran which does not offer unlimited seats for their cheaper plans.

Hevo Data’s Free plan allows 1 million events/data records per month, which gives you the benefit of sticking to an allotted amount of data input rather than having a mystery bill each month. Their Free plan is great for those that want to stay on budget whereas Fivetran can be expected to get very pricy.

With Hevo Data’s Starter plan it then becomes debatable which service is overall cheaper. Starter’s cost is an adjustable estimate depending on how many records you need, similar to Fivetran’s pay-as-you-go pricing. This means Hevo Data could get more expensive than Fivetran and Fivtran could be less expensive than Hevo Data all based on monthly usage.

Both services have a more custom plan without upfront pricing so it’s not easy to tell who is more affordable without consulting sales. Another thing to note is that Fivetran has more complex features whereas Hevo Data offers the basics you need for an ELT, connectors, and a data warehouse for the data sources.

If you are a startup or small business, you can definitely save a lot on initial costs if you started with Hevo Data’s Free subscription. When your needs become more demanding you might consider the more diverse plans in Fivetran. The highest Fivetran plan estimate could be around the same cost as Hevo Data’s Starter, so they’re both worth considering.
