Hive - A great choice of project management tool for distributed teams

Rating: 7 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We were using Hive for our project management as it is a great project management tool. These are the following use cases Hive solved for us

<ul><li>Task tracking: Hive allowed out users to create and track tasks, assign them to team members, and set deadlines.</li><li>Collaboration: Hive includes tools for team communication and collaboration, including a team chat feature, the ability to share files and documents, and the ability to leave comments and feedback on tasks.</li><li>Project planning: Hive offers tools for project planning, including the ability to create and track project timelines, create and assign tasks, and manage resources.</li><li>Integration: Hive can be integrated with a variety of other tools and services, such as Google Calendar, Slack, and Trello, to allow teams to work seamlessly across different platforms.</li></ul>

Pros

  • Data warehousing: Hive is often used as a data warehousing platform, allowing users to store and analyze large amounts of structured and semi-structured data. It is especially good at handling data that is too large to be stored and analyzed on a single machine, and supports a wide variety of data formats.
  • Batch processing: Hive is designed for batch processing of large datasets, making it well-suited for tasks such as data ETL (extract, transform, load), data cleansing, and data aggregation.
  • Data transformation: Hive allows users to perform data transformations and manipulations using custom scripts written in Java, Python, or other programming languages. This can be useful for tasks such as data cleansing, data aggregation, and data transformation.
  • Integration with other tools: Hive integrates with a wide variety of other tools and services in the Hadoop ecosystem, such as Pig, Spark, and HBase, allowing users to perform a wide range of data analysis and management tasks.

Cons

  • Real-time queries: Hive is a batch-oriented system, which means that it is designed to process large amounts of data in a batch mode rather than in real-time. While it is possible to use Hive for real-time queries, it may not be the most efficient choice for this type of workload.
  • Complex queries: Hive is optimised for simple queries on large datasets, but may struggle with more complex queries or queries that require multiple joins or subqueries.
  • Data management: While Hive supports a wide variety of data formats and storage options, it may not offer as many advanced data management features as some other tools, such as data partitioning and indexing.

Likelihood to Recommend

Hive is a powerful tool for data analysis and management that is well-suited for a wide range of scenarios. Here are some specific examples of scenarios where Hive might be particularly well-suited:

Data warehousing: Hive is often used as a data warehousing platform, allowing users to store and analyze large amounts of structured and semi-structured data. It is especially good at handling data that is too large to be stored and analyzed on a single machine, and supports a wide variety of data formats.

Batch processing: Hive is designed for batch processing of large datasets, making it well-suited for tasks such as data ETL (extract, transform, load), data cleansing, and data aggregation.Simple queries on large datasets: Hive is optimized for simple queries on large datasets, making it a good choice for tasks such as data exploration and summary statistics.

Data transformation: Hive allows users to perform data transformations and manipulations using custom scripts written in Java, Python, or other programming languages. This can be useful for tasks such as data cleansing, data aggregation, and data transformation.

On the other hand, here are some specific examples of scenarios where Hive might be less appropriate:

Real-time queries: Hive is a batch-oriented system, which means that it is designed to process large amounts of data in a batch mode rather than in real-time. While it is possible to use Hive for real-time queries, it may not be the most efficient choice for this type of workload.

Complex queries: Hive is optimized for simple queries on large datasets, but may struggle with more complex queries or queries that require multiple joins or subqueries.Very large datasets: While Hive is designed to scale horizontally and can handle large amounts of data, it may not scale as well as some other tools for very large datasets or complex workloads.

Very smooth layout and great to have coworkers collaborate remotely!

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We used Hive to manage a one-off weeks-long project within our marketing space. We had people located in multiple offices in the country, and we wanted coworkers to be able to contribute in real time just like if they were all in the office. Hive offered everything we needed across all their solutions/features to help us do that: checklists, tracking, deadline management, etc. all highly collaborative. It made us feel like we were using a "real" physical whiteboard.

Pros

  • Customization
  • Very smooth layout across interfaces
  • Supports multiple formats like videos

Cons

  • Many functionalities, which is great but can be confusing
  • Learning curve is required before using full capabilities
  • A clear list with all options or an effective search function would be helpful, as some options are in sub-menus

Likelihood to Recommend

Relying on Hive really permitted us to move swiftly and effectively across a project, which would not have been possible without it due to current remote working models. A lot of our team members work in different cities or sometimes in different countries/timezones so it would have been impossible to have everyone working together in the same room.

Great User Friendly Collaborative Tool.

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

A helpful tool for individuals to manage projects and tasks. This platform is heavily user-focused, which allows for greater adoption and flexibility of the software. Great platform to help streamline work and low-code options for forms and automation. However, very little thought was given to the Enterprise level and reporting. It is very hard to get a high-level overview of what projects are in the space.

Pros

  • Hive Forms - low code form building for quick delivery.
  • Different views - user can select between Kanban view or Table view.
  • Automation Capabilities - can build automation features without the need for a developer.

Cons

  • No universal Admin role - makes Data governance and integrity hard to maintain.
  • No visibility at an Executive Level - platform tailored to one user versus an organization.
  • Not consistent within the product - one app might have a feature, but you cannot use that feature outside the app space.

Likelihood to Recommend

Overall, this platform has been well-received and adopted by our users. It is user-friendly, offers flexibility with views, and is easy to learn. Very little thought was given at the Executive level and reporting up in an organization. It is very hard to get the data in this space for good reports or visibility.

Effective work management and automation platform

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Hive is a decent alternative project management app with a variety of add-ons that can extend the platform's functionality upon need. We can do a lot more with a single tool that has a lot of features in it. We can also integrate with other tools to input data and work on projects.

Pros

  • Great project management tool for our team
  • Automations makes work done quickly
  • Offers multiple views including kanban view one of my most preferred

Cons

  • More designs and templates needed
  • Data export option is missing. Needed file export for local backup

Likelihood to Recommend

If you want to move onto another platform, Hive is one platform that offers multiple features. It's an extremely useful tool for teamwork and collaboration, as we can invite other people to take part. The product has really helped us with its automation ability, which allows us to complete tasks on time.

Hive Makes it easier for managing projects.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Hive is used for managing projects provided by several clients. It helps manage projects in the right stages. Assigning various stages to the team has become easier using Hive. Hive let me manage projects and make the milestones delivery to client success. It has created a smooth process of delivering tasks on time from the team side. Has been greatly helpful.

Pros

  • Projects Management.
  • Helps with managing projects well.
  • Team synchronization.
  • Team is sync'd on various stages of the projects.
  • Milestones management.

Cons

  • Maybe provide more integrations with HubSpot and other CRMs.

Likelihood to Recommend

Hive is great for managing projects with your team. Assigning tasks is simple enough using Hive. It helps manage team goals for the projects. We are able to create reports (via the dashboard) for the progress and updates to provide to the team based on completed stages. Works great for bigger projects.

Hive is a good one to try, but try a bit before you buy

Rating: 4 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Hive was intended to help us streamline communications around complex processes. It was meant to replace several other tools that we use for the same purposes, and consolidate our work information into a single avenue for truth. We planned to use it to plan web improvement, construction, audiovisual, content creation, and exhibition development projects.

Pros

  • Email integration
  • Review workflows
  • Attractive UI

Cons

  • Resource management
  • Inflexible toolbars
  • Filters

Likelihood to Recommend

Hive is great for workflows that need approvals and reviews. Hive allows you to upload files and then review and comment on those files in a sophisticated manner. This is absolutely the number one feature I would say. IF this is not something you need, then a tool like ClickUp might suit you better, as it is more feature rich but has a steeper learning curve at first.

Smart Product Development with Hive

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

The analytics team, globally, started collaborating more often during the pandemic. This led to more cross-border projects where teams across time zones and skill sets were working on several different aspects of one product. Hive was considered as the solution to help us better project-manage for analytics product development. Its superior collaborative and task organization capabilities played key role in this consideration.

Pros

  • Product vision
  • Simplified communication
  • Better integration capabilities with existing tools and services
  • Automations

Cons

  • Mobile app support
  • Scalability
  • Competitive pricing

Likelihood to Recommend

Hive has better road mapping for a product development team that works in unison across different locations. It's easy to keep track of tasks or if someone needs a hand. Through its simplified communication workflow, it's easier to anticipate any roadblocks in the overall project. This service has scope to improve the mobile application support as working with Hive from a mobile device is less than a pleasant experience.

Everything you need in one place

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We worked in a business that had a large number of tv productions that all had different teams, episodes, and were at different stages of production. Hive allowed us to work across multiple projects and track everything we did, including all documents.

Pros

  • Document annotation
  • Project tracking
  • resourcing
  • adapting to client needs

Cons

  • video feedback
  • bulk adjustments

Likelihood to Recommend

Hive was incredibly well suited to the work we did across tv productions that had a number of episodes. We worked with the Hive team to make sure that the platform worked for us which made a huge difference. I was able to track, remind, and notify team members of when items needed to be delivered, edited, or approved without barraging other people with notifications.

Great management asset

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use it to improve teamwork by creating the oportunity to interact with others in a space that is not as strict as the internal platform, we get a way to visualize the status of the job being done. As it has the proof option it's faster to interact and edit. When we have an organizing-next-steps kind of meeting its easy to keep notes in a collaborative way and to fix the steps to take in a list.

Pros

  • Simplicity, it offers a clean environment without risking the outcome. An example of this are the timesheets that allow a fast way to keep track of progress
  • Interaction, the different options make it faster and easier to interact and collaborate in the development of a product. An example of this would be Hive Notes for meetings
  • The different visualisations it offers allow to explore the best ways to affront your projects. I really like the Gantt mappings view to understand who can be contacted at each point

Cons

  • The first steps were confusing, it gets some time to adapt to some of the tools.
  • The labels of status could be easier to change, when you are used to it is OK but newcomers tend to mess them up

Likelihood to Recommend

Its great to share those activities we do as a group as developing, organizing, meetings, the roles of each ones. Activities that previously we were doing using 3 or more applications (planner, todo, trello, teams groups, outlook calendars...) this simplified everything and made it all faster
