A robust tool for your Apple devices

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I used Jamf Now to manage our board members' and executives' iPads and iPhones. While this tool could have easily handled a larger team, it was more than perfect for the small group of individuals we needed to manage devices for.

Pros

  • Automation
  • Great for Apple MDM
  • Very intuitive

Cons

  • UI can feel a bit messy to some
  • Not great for a mix environment (Windows + Apple)
  • Kind of a steep learning curve

Return on Investment

  • Jamf Now provides an extra layer of granularity when it comes to device details
  • Smart groups are better that Intune's dynamic AAD groups
  • Scripts can be made much more complex than competitors

Usability

Alternatives Considered

Microsoft Intune

Jamf Use by Novice Apple User

Pros

  • Resetting passwords remotely..
  • Locking or wiping a device.
  • Pushing new apps out to all or one iPad.
  • Controlling what apps are installed on the iPads.

Cons

  • I wish that Jamf would also handle Android Devices.

Return on Investment

  • It took a little to get all the iPads set up but once done it was worth it.
  • I am not an Apple person, but Jamf was very helpful in getting me set up.
  • Since I can automatically update or add apps remotely, I don't have to bring the iPads in individually to add apps which saves a lot of my time.

Other Software Used

IBM MaaS360 with Watson, DraftSight, Microsoft Office 365

Jamf Now, a perfect solution for smaller businesses with Apple devices

Pros

  • Ease of use.
  • Good support.
  • Very informative and helpful.

Cons

  • More features.

Return on Investment

  • Low Cost: 2-3 dollars a device for a month was cheaper than the time spent repairing the Mac server.

Jamf Now changes the Mobile Device Management game without breaking the bank

Pros

  • I can push enterprise/company purchased apps to our employees out in the field without ever touching the iPad.
  • I can set restrictions on company devices.
  • I can view device health in real time.
  • I can lock or wipe a device remotely.

Cons

  • I would like to see some more advanced functions for the iOS supervised mode. Maybe pushing iOS updates? Right now we can only see if it requires an update, but can't schedule an update time, etc.
  • I would like to see Jamf Now work with Apple to allow apps with in-app purchases that can be used with Jamf Now. Right now some apps don't have two versions available in the app store (a full version, and a free version with in-app purchases), so the single version free app with in-app purchases can't be used across our enterprise environment. :(
  • They could do with a better lost device activation lock. Currently, you can only lock a device from being erased and re-setup if you associate an icloud account with it and turn it on to find the lost device.

Return on Investment

  • One IT employee is able to manage 30 devices with ease.
  • The price that we pay for Jamf Now is very reasonable, especially for the time it saves.
  • IT can now concentrate on other tasks that time could be better spent on.
