Kindsight iWave for Development Professional

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We utilize Kindsight for prospect researching for higher education. We appreciate the depth of data they provide with high accuracy as well as key points such as listing out which other organizations the individuals have supported in the past with details such as amounts and dates if available. This gives us a better understanding of the probability of philanthropy as it correlates to our organization.

Pros

  • Real estate
  • Other donations
  • Scoring

Cons

  • Ways to report errors in information
  • Smaller functionality package for smaller organizations
  • Add in family relations section
  • List known LLCs

Likelihood to Recommend

Kindsight had the best history of philanthropy and most accurate real estate of all products we have tried. They focus their business on larger companies and it works great for our small organization, but we do not need many of the types of tools they market. We tend to cross check data with another service at all times to obtain a more robust profile. Kindsight tends to have the most accurate data.

Usage of Kindsight iWave in prospect research and outreach

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I utilize Kindsight iWave to conduct research or find more information about a certain person, company, or a company's other business locations outside of its headquarters. I work professionally in corporate fundraising, so I love the feature about being able to see a company's philanthropic giving, giving to certain industries/organizations, and even the level of that giving. Additionally, I like that I can find an individual person I'm trying to contact, and even though I don't have a lot of personal information to type-in and find that person within Kindsight iWave, I can use other auxilliary information to track down that person, find his/her email and title, and then follow up if I want. It's a great tool and is super helpful in research and prospecting.

Pros

  • Research
  • Prospecting
  • Company outreach
  • Philanthropic Giving data
  • Employee titles

Cons

  • Integration with platforms like Outlook, LinkedIn, CRM software
  • Ability to send messages or outreach within Kindsight iWave website itself
  • Using other web links to try and identify a person or company within Kindsight iWave

I was traveling to Dallas, Texas to meet with a client, and while traveling to Dallas, I wanted to find and identify 3-5 other prospects or companies to potentially meet with while traveling to Dallas. I was able to track down companies that donated to similiar organizations, based in the Dallas area, and was able to specify companies with a certain threshold or number of current employees, which can often be an indicator of giving potential.

Outstanding Fundraising Resource

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Kindsight iWave’s comprehensive database provides access to a vast amount of information on potential donors, helping us to make informed decisions about who to target for major gifts. This wealth of data significantly streamlines the prospect research process, saving valuable time and resources. We use it as our main resource to verify home ownership, board memberships and philanthropy, among others.

Pros

  • Solves the time constraints we face to do prospect research and run donor wealth screenings by providing a comprehensive one-stop-shop platform.
  • Brings up property owned by LLCs as well as those owned by individuals.
  • Helps to look for philanthropy interests by enabling the user to zero down under giving areas.

Cons

  • It doesn't interface well with our CRM, causing us to forego use of the screenings.
  • Can be picky with the apartment number format when searching under an address (using # vs. using Apt. or Unit), which can bring up a false empty response.
  • Will sometimes pull up too many variations of a name unless the name is put into quotes. Could use an exact match name box to click as an alternative.

Likelihood to Recommend

Kindsight iWave is our main resource because they provide information on home ownership, philanthropy, ZoomInfo, Dun & Bradstreet, Database USA, insider filings, obituaries, and more. They also offer other services that are accessible depending upon your subscription level. Their customer service is top-notch as well.

They don't interface with all CRMs, so that is something to consider if you want to download data into your records without too much of an effort. As such, we use another resource for our wealth screenings. Nonetheless, we are extremely satisfied with their service.

iWave is the bees knees

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use Kindsight iWave to identify prospects by searching for their real estate and giving. It is my best source to start my search on where their philanthropy is and the values of homes. I use it for all the other various things they offer but those are the two biggest things I go to iWave for. And those two things are probably the most important when trying to rate a prospect so it's a great source.

Pros

  • Identifying philanthropy from 990s
  • Identifying and putting into a list political giving
  • Providing market values as well as assessed values for homes in the real estate search feature
  • Let's you connect properties by searching for the property being a mailing address along with being the address itself

Cons

  • I would like to know the sources of the real estate market values
  • I wish I could specify names better so when I search Gregory I don't get all the "Greg"s too. Sometimes it's useful for it to pull nicknames but it can be a nightmare for some common names like William.
  • I wish it could pull obituaries my person is mentioned in not just obituaries for my person because I'm never going to be searching for my person's obit, they're a living person I'm currently seeking.

Likelihood to Recommend

Any time I need to see if someone owns multiple properties it provides me with that info by searching mailing addresses. I love that it provides links to the philanthropic data sources so I can see myself what they pulled as my person. I wish they had some feature to connect family members because it could almost replace Lexis Nexis.

Unreasonable Contract Renewal Terms

Rating: 1 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We used it as a wealth screening tool. We would screen our current database of donors and donors we'd accrue over the year. We'd attempt to find new people who would be interested in giving to our organization but that was not successful.

Pros

  • The import tool is easy to use.

Cons

  • Unreasonable renewal contract stipulations.
  • You have to cancel 6 months in advance of your subscription date
  • You have to trim down the possible duplicates and if you know enough about your donors to trim them down to an accurate profile, then you already know more about your donors than Kindsight iWave can tell you.

Likelihood to Recommend

If you are a small fundraising shop, then this product is too expensive for what it gives you. If you work at a giant non-profit and have a huge budget, fine, use it. But, in my opinion, it's not great for small orgs.

iWave (Kindsight) Review

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use iWave (Kindsight) to help identify, rate, screen, and segment prospects - primarily for major gifts fundraising but also for a range of other projects such as leadership volunteer identification, annual fund segmentation, and other engagement opportunities.

Pros

  • customer service
  • maximum value on investment
  • detailed and easily exportable screening results

Cons

  • screening results less weighted toward real estate
  • improved functionality related to identifying connections between prospects that have already been screened
  • expanded functionality to alert users of wealth generating events (sale of real estate, etc)
  • functionality that would allow users to screen for updated employment information

Likelihood to Recommend

iWave is well suited for shops with a dedicated prospect researcher who can spend time vetting and confirming results and diving into the more detailed research functions. It is potentially less suitable for a shop that would need to take action on the results provided without vetting and confirming them first.

If I can't find it in iWave, I won't find it anywhere

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use iWave to research prospective donors, board members and other key people to gather background information and their donation history mostly. When doing a donor rating and screening, we like to find out what other organizations the person has donated to as well as to fill in the blanks we have such as an address, work place, phone number, or email.

Pros

  • donation history
  • web references

Cons

  • sometimes they don't list the current workplace and will have a previous occupation, needs to be updated

Likelihood to Recommend

I can find a plethora of information on the person I'm searching for. Sometimes it's hard to determine if I've found the right person if they have a common name.

iWave helps us ride the donor wave

Rating: 8 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Iwave to screen our donor database and then to create profiles for a selection of those donors. We use it for both overall screening and deep-dive individual research. It helps us to prioritize our outreach and engagement in the Development Department.

Pros

  • Database wealth screening
  • Donor profiles
  • Confirming capacity

Cons

  • Confidence scoring for matching has room for improvement
  • I'd like it to automatically create profiles
  • Integration with RENXT

Likelihood to Recommend

Iwave is well suited to give you a starting point for screening a large data set, and to generate capacity indicators for your population. It is less useful for finding philanthropic inclination in general, in my experience because the recency of the donation data driving that does not seem to be up to date.

Best of its kind for value

Rating: 7 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

iWave was used by or development team to help us figure out our best major donor contacts. The amount of information was useful for our major gift developer to establish a relationship with a donor we thought may be interested in long term major gifts. It also helped them prioritize and narrow down who they should be focusing on, along with giving them an idea of how much of an ask they should approach with when on visits or calls. The data was updated monthly and imported to our database for easy use by all of development to help monitor what stages of development each donor was in.

Pros

  • iWave is very good at finding the details of a donor and their financial picture
  • iWave is very good at breaking down this information in a digestible form
  • iWave is one of the most accurate systems we have use for donor matching when it comes to searching donors form our database

Cons

  • iWave gives you A LOT of information. And I mean a lot. Some of it seems mundane while other info points are important. I wish it could be narrowed down by how much data you want to see on somebody
  • Because of the amount of information, it's so easy to get lost in the weeds of your large donors. It has a very WIDE focus for gathering info
  • The website could definitely have a better layout. Sometimes finding the data or tab you need can be tricky

Likelihood to Recommend

iWave is well suite for gathering a better idea of who you should focus on for major giving efforts. While it gives you a lot of good information, some of that information feels not very important and therefore, clogs up the data you actually need. iWave should not be used for something like direct mail list making. iWave seems to really be focused on the major donor aspect and it is not a tool to be used to help with regular annual giving

iWave - Great Service, Great Product

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

iWave is used by the fundraising department in a non-profit organization. It helps to research donors and look up constituent information. It provides better prospect research tools for the team.

Pros

  • Sleek Interface
  • Easy to Use

Cons

  • Confirmed Records
  • Improved Integration to Fundraising Software

Likelihood to Recommend

iWave may be the best prospect research tool our department has used since I have been here. It is easy to use, provides excellent information, and enables the prospect researcher to provide complete research profiles.
