We use Motive to track our vehicles, keep real time safety data of our fleet, and train on better driving decisions. Before Motive, we were not able to do more than just track our fleet. With Motive we are finally able to see more. The dash camera provides us valuable feedback on road conditions, helps support our continued training on safe driving habits, and gives us real time feedback on issues or repair requests so that maintenance and repair are seamless.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Motive as a compliance tool for the Electronic Logging Device Mandate. Although we operate within a limited radius and could possibly get away with the 150 air mile radius, this eliminates risk exposure to the company by streamlining operations, keeping track of hours of service, logging equipment inspections, marking defective equipment and showing confirmation of vehicle repairs, and assists in recordkeeping in case of a DOT Audit. This is an industry standard system and allow us to keep track of our contractors as well for tracking on time arrivals, proof for detention purposes in terms of billing, and assists in ensuring that contractors stay compliant with all hours of service regulations.

Pros

  • It tracks contractors well with the Fleet View to allow real time geographic locations.
  • Motive tracks a contractors hours of service records which allows all to see remaining hours of service both for the day and remainder of the cycle.
  • Motive keeps the logs indexed and allows safety to make edits as needed within legal parameters in the instance of someone forgetting to go off duty etc. This is a big help to dispatch to avoid HOS or Form & Manner violations

Cons

  • I honestly cannot think of a function in Motive that I would change. And usually I'm one to critique something or find something needing improvement.

Return on Investment

  • Motive has made log counseling with contractors much easier. If a contractor has difficulty comprehending where they may need to make improvements, I can print off the logs in question and go step by step with them to help them see and read over the data.
  • Being in Northwest Ohio, the center of the manufacturing of North America, we are DOT heavy. But by going through Motive and it also sending alerts, we are able to stay ahead of the game and make sure we are staying compliant in case of roadside inspections or DOT Audits.

Great Product.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Motive to track all our equipment and assets and to monitor our CDL drivers' Hours of Service. It is a great ELD tool and does a good job of tracking our units. It also allows us to run the needed reports for IFTA and other apportioned registration needs.

Pros

  • Reporting
  • Asset & Vehicle Tracking.
  • Hours of Service recording.

Cons

  • Their customer service reps aren't always the most responsive and helpful.
  • Their support team is good, but they can take a while to return emails.
  • The response emails from the support team can be cumbersome due to the way they are relayed and formatted.

Return on Investment

  • We have had good success monitoring our safety events involving drivers using Motive's data.
  • We get good alerts on driver's that are speeding.
  • I also like some of the integrations we can do with our third-party company that handles our IFTA reporting, so they can gather the data they need without our help. It really streamlines efficiency.
