Best tool to monitor your Databases to granular level
Use Cases and Deployment Scope
We are using the tool to full on its capacity, we have a different URL created to see the DPA platform although it is integrated with the main SAM configured platform of SolarWinds where main alert monitoring of all the other devices is being done. We are following the master Slave feature of DPA as we have 2 different URL's of DPA due to limitation of multiple devices being configured on a single platform in DPA. We are using the tool for all the critical analysis as RCA found out or even the lock issue or blockage issue which happens sometime on Database.
Pros
- Granule level of monitoring on the databases includes blockage on database is being monitored very well.
- A good picture is provided from the dashboard point of view to see which link or service is using the DB more.
- It monitors all the services and db calls as well even monitors the db jobs as well and gives you a very clear picture without going into the db itself.
Cons
- One big thing is all on a single page for now DPA is required to be used as a separate module on a separate URL although all the other modules like SAM, VOIP, NPM etc can be used on a single platform -
- Interface is old and can be adjusted a bit to support the today's world view compared with other tools.
Return on Investment
- We were able to resolve an ongoing P1 call with the help of DPA in 10 minutes which resulted in saving the 4 to 5 hours of manufacturing time whereas if we have used the basic manual way we may have taken around 4 to 5 hours to fix it.
- It helped the team to automated few things as the manual work is less now since we have a good way to see things rather than spending time in going into the devices and checking the values.
