Overall Satisfaction with Adobe Captivate

Adobe Captivate is used by our training department to build training courses and presentations for new and existing employees. As a training advisor, I use Adobe Captivate to show the employees how to use our client data base system. We also use it to make questionnaires so the employees can measure their knowledge at the end of the course.

Pros

  • Adobe Captivate works very well to create demos of how to use a software.
  • Adobe Captivate is a good tool when you want a presentation to be lively and animated.
  • Adobe Captivate works well when you want to record your voice while doing a visual demo.

Cons

  • Adobe Captivate is not that user-friendly. It takes a bit longer to learn how it works.
  • Previews are long to load, even when you are just previewing 5 slides.
  • When you are making a video, it is hard to make changes without having to do it all over again.
  • It takes a lot of time to learn how to use Adobe Captivate, so we have spent a lot of time for training before using it.
  • Projects made with Adobe Captivate are taking much longer to edit and have left us less time for other tasks.
  • Because Adobe Captivate is not that user-friendly, we have lost a lot of time to get back into the habit of using it because we don't use it every day.
Adobe Captivate is very useful when you need to make a demo of how to use a software, an application, or when you need to demonstrate how to navigate on a website or anything similar. It is less practical if you think about using it for preparing questionnaires and assessing employees.

Captivate does offer better and specific options for Software Simulations and demos. It provides both the options for system audio and microphone. Captivate allows you to record all three modes simultaneously. Animations and custom interactions can be done as well. Looking at Storyline, there is record screen option and system audio should be recorded manually and it allows you to record only one mode at a time. In these aspects, Captivate is better.

Added to the demo and simulations, In terms of video based elearning course creation, Captivate allows embedding of videos from Youtube, Vimeo and add video files from the system, add bookmarks, knowledge check, info etc.. which helps the user to have a quick self-review on their leaning content and thereby assess themselves. In Storyline customizing and making interactive videos requires lots of manual work in doing that.
