Overall Satisfaction with AlphaSense
I use AlphaSense as an integral part of my equity research process. This includes sourcing new ideas via screens and keyword alerts, researching ideas via reading SEC documents and expert insight calls, and maintaining research on existing ideas via the dashboard's alerts and organization of my notes on each situation and security.
- AlphaSense has a unique database of expert network calls
- AlphaSense allows a full text search across SEC and non-SEC documents
- AlphaSense allows you to use it as a central repository for notes on names
- AlphaSense isn't a full replacement for CapitalIQ or Bloomberg. It lacks all the fundamental data of those sources (i.e. historical revenue, earnings, cash flow)
- AlphaSense can be a bit overwhelming because there is so much depth to the product. It requires some training to master
- Sometimes the website can be a little slow to load when searching for things.
- The expert call insights have become an invaluable tool for research and maintenance on ideas. This saves time and money vs. having to schedule these calls independently
- I have found the keywork alert emails to be better than google alerts because they search through more domain specific sources
- I've been able to cut out Tegus and a few other vendors and consolidate around AlphaSense, although it hasn't fully replaced CapIQ or bloomberg
The keywork alerts have helped alot. I have several setup that provide weekly updates on key themes and topics in our research flow. Furthermore, the ability to search through the expert call library has allowed us to identify more companies tangential to themes we are tracking that we may not have identified at all previously.
Capital IQ has more data but capital IQ is very clunky to use (it is very slow). Capital IQ lacks expert insight calls but has other data to offer including credit analytics
BamSEC only has SEC documents and has integrated with Tegus expert calls. It is lighter on data and functionality but is very sleek
Koyfin has data and solid visualizations but doesn't have expert calls or other unique data that cannot be found on CapitalIQ or Bloomberg
