Overall Satisfaction with Altium Designer

I use Altium Designer to generate Schematic diagrams and PCB layouts. It's also handy to generate 3d models of a populated PCB so you can check the fit in product.

Pros

  • Generates Schematics
  • Lays out PCBs
  • Generated 3D model

Cons

  • Some features are difficult to locate
  • Altium has saved us a lot of time in product development.
There are a lot of features and some the process for using some of the less frequently used features are easy to forget.
Altium makes it very easy to go from schematic to finished PCB layout.
We are a small office and have not used the collaborative features of Altium Design.

Altium Designer is well suited to regular PCB design. It does take time to learn everything and some things are easy to forget, so if you don't use it for a while you may have to refamiliarize yourself with Altium's commands.
