Overall Satisfaction with Amazon Cognito

Since our department focuses on cloud development, we used Amazon Cognito to implement an access system for our application, which required a strict policy from our security team and also a custom challenge to allow the user to log in with a custom access flow through connections from other services and databases.

Pros

  • Easy implementation
  • Fast login
  • Easy to use

Cons

  • lack of customization of security policy
  • The UI could be better
  • Very cheap
  • Secure
  • Time savings
Amazon Cognito is easy to use and implement if you don't need to implement custom policies. But if your security team requires something outside the box, then implementation becomes complicated and you risk wasting time. There is no option for customizable regex for passwords, which is a major deficiency. The standard password policy, allow to choose the length of the password, if it should contains at least one number, one special character, one uppercase letter and one lowercase letter.
Amazon Cognito is a better-known service with extensive documentation and a large community. IBM App ID is more limited and simpler as a service, but it allows for easier and better password policy customization than Amazon Cognito.

Do you think Amazon Cognito delivers good value for the price?

Did Amazon Cognito live up to sales and marketing promises?

Did implementation of Amazon Cognito go as expected?

Would you buy Amazon Cognito again?

Yes

Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), Amazon Elastic Container Service (Amazon ECS), Amazon Route 53
If you are looking for an affordable and first of all secure option to implement simple user login with the ability to create customizable challenges, this is the right service for you.
But if you want to add specific security policies, then you need to implement them separately, which could be challenging.
