Overall Satisfaction with Anaplan
At this organization, Anaplan is being used by the FP&A and Sales Ops departments. My experience is with FP&A. This organization was using Microsoft Excel for forecasting and Microsoft Access for consolidations. It was a very slow process to update the forecast. Anaplan allowed us to have all forecasts in one model (rather than multiple Excel spreadsheets) that can be accessed by everyone at once, and where the updates are flowed live to the financial statements.
Pros
- User access controls that are easy to maintain
- Models are maintained by end users, not IT
- Easy Scenario/What-if Analysis and forecast adjustments
- Automation of data integration
- Hierarchy changes are easy and quick and flow through entire model
Cons
- Improved dashboarding views
- Model locking up when a formula error is entered
- Multiple people can be in the tool making updates at the same time
- Setting up and updating user access is quick and easy
- Creating dashboards is easy
- Anaplan formula syntax is very similar to excel, making it easy to learn
- Quicker forecast turnarounds
- More accurate forecasting
A lot of companies use excel for forecasting before switching to Anaplan. Anaplan is better for forecasting as it allows for more collaborative work since multiple people can be in the tool at the same time making updates. Anaplan is also very flexible when it comes to
updating time and list/hierarchy information by automatically applying updates
across the entire model (e.g., no more manually adding columns for a new fiscal
year or manually adding rows for new products or GL accounts, across multiple
excel files).
