Overall Satisfaction with Apica Synthetic

We use Apica Synthetic for networks, servers, and application monitoring for the performance and availability of networks, servers, and applications.
  • Automated network device discovery
  • Network monitoring
  • Alerts
  • Customizable reports
  • Reports are a bit clunky to build
  • Difficult to scale for enterprise-wide monitoring
  • The infrastructure availability can be seen in a single UI.
  • The ability to simulate high-traffic loads on applications is very valuable.
We actually preferred IP HostMonitor over Apica Synthetic, as it was more stable and uses less real estate. IP HostMonitor does not support true load simulation, which we miss from the Apica Synthetic trials.

Do you think Apica Synthetic delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Apica Synthetic's feature set?

No

Did Apica Synthetic live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Apica Synthetic go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Apica Synthetic again?

No

It allows us to know if our services and applications are up/down. It's great for specific and local end-point monitoring, not so great for enterprise monitoring. Its value lies in being able to simulate real user load against an application or service.

Using Apica Synthetic

2 - The ERP administrator and software engineer use Apica. Typically the major use case is for testing and simulation using multiple currencies, locations and load potential.
2 - The software engineer and head of IT support Apica normally, we also use an outside vendor for more complicated issues.
  • We monitor DNS both on-prem and off-prem to verify route and performance info
  • We simulate, or mirror, points and clicks or API calls that customers use
  • Specifically we monitor the front-end UI& background transactions, as well vendor applications performance and availability
  • We have been able to test the availability of IT services such as help desk, DNS & hardware monitors
  • We are able collect performance metrics like response time, time to submit, etc. simulating a users location
  • Monitoring and troubleshooting performance issues
  • Verify that all apps & pages are available and responding as expected worldwide
Apica has been a great value regarding simulations, metrics, performance monitoring and availability checks. The UI is not very intuitive, it can be difficult to navigate.
