Overall Satisfaction with ApptioOne

We are primarily currently using ApptioOne for budgeting and planning. We had little visibility across our various categories across departments prior to implementation. We are also utilizing CT to grant visibility into the Actuals, so that Cost Center Owners can analyze the variance between their plan and actuals.

Pros

  • Real time budgeting/forecasting
  • Comparison of Actuals to Plan
  • Overall view of yearly budget
  • Analysis of savings opportunities

Cons

  • IT Planning is rigid. It can only customize the data it ingests, there is not really a way to customize how it functions
  • Comparison of Forecasts to Budgets using Variance Analysis is not possible (cannot set up Variance Analysis on a Budget)
We are mostly using IT Planning for Budgeting and Forecasting. Primarily within Cost Transparency, we are not doing much with modeling yet, but we have created customized copies of the OOTB Financial Reports so that it makes sense for the Cost Center Owners within our organization. We also have several custom reports which are purposed with comparing what is ingested in ApptioOne to some of our other source systems (such as those for overall financials, those for projects, etc.) What is most important to us is the ability of dozens of Cost Center Owners to be able to use ITP seamlessly and simultaneously.
  • Better planning for resources (more efficient in our next year budget than years past)
  • Finding human errors in our SAP ledgers
  • Finding missing or odd invoices, PO's, etc.
  • Finding where we are over/under forecasted
They are typically fairly slow to rectify situations. That being said, we have had a few tickets that have had to be escalated as they are not typical low-level support, outages, etc. But we have not had the fastest response times.
  • Cloudability
We are not using other products as of now. We are looking at implementing Cloudability next year, although we need to work with our current CSP and ApptioOne to make it work.
I have not used or evaluated any other products.

I like that it shows Cost Center Owners detailed actuals that are easy to ingest and use in their planning, and I like that for the executive level, it gives them the high-level KPIs and measurements they need.
