Overall Satisfaction with Autodesk Inventor
Inventor is being used by our drawing and design department. Our business is designing manufacturing drawings related to coal washing plants in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal, South-Africa. We use Inventor for all structural designs which are then converted into IDW's which are in turn used by manufacturing teams to do the actual manufacturing and assembly.
- Sheet metal design.
- Adaptive design.
- Steel section availability through library elements.
- The style manager might be better. Choosing between or changing styles related to materials used, measurement details, dimension options, etc.
- Modeling options are sometimes lacking in designing curved faces through the use of mesh.
- Licensing might be expensive for small startup companies or single entrepreneurs.
- Working on a project designed with Inventor provides a modular design platform that can quickly be configured or changed as required. This allows for the quick turn around time for the design and revision of drawings.
- We've used Inventor over the years (since 2013) and the updates and newly released versions of Inventor do not require re-training or restrict use.
- Autodesk follows an intuitive approach and users or designers who have worked on other design platforms like SOLIDWORKS can transition easily to Inventor.
- AutoCAD and SOLIDWORKS
Inventor and SOLIDWORKS compare nicely with it coming down to user preference. Both are great modeling tools, with Autodesk providing more flexibility through its subscription add-ons. Although AutoCAD exists in a different environment it is still used for design although less modeling is involved, with Inventor being way easier to use, more intuitive and visually appealing.
