Overall Satisfaction with Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)

Our main use is that it allows us to run and manage our containerized application in a standardized way. It helps eliminate underlying hardware dependencies and offers us one pane of glass in a very reliable and scalable environment.

Pros

  • Gives us consistency across platforms and teams
  • Easy to integrate into the MS ecosystem
  • Very reliable and scalable

Cons

  • Lacks some key observability features which should be included
  • Challenges with multi or hybrid environments
  • Gaps in security functionality
  • Improved scalability without redesigning out architecture
  • Easy integration with our existing Azure environment
  • Standardization across environments and deployments
  • Enterprise security features
Once you get past the learning curve it's a very reliable and easy to use platform for day to day tasks. The implementation is relatively easy, especially if you are already an Azure AD customer.
Amazon EKS stacked up very well and had better performance in some areas. However, Azure Kubernetes Service was a better fit given our Azure environment.

Yes

Did Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) again?

Yes

Azure Kubernetes Service is a good choice if you're already on Azure and need to manage microservices or containerize apps. It works well for our internal apps and APIs and have an easy integration with the rest of the MS ecosystem. For smaller operations / teams, it's probably overkill for what they need.
