Overall Satisfaction with Balsamiq

I use Balsamiq for a range of applications. Firstly, I use it for ideation and creating mock ups to flesh out ideas. Secondly, I use it to create wireframes for quick communication with clients. Lastly I use it for verification and collaboration with clients. I find that it is much more effective for requirements elicitation to have something visual drawn up and Balsamic is fast and easy.

I use Balsamic for ideation, discussion, collaboration and proposals. It is super fast and easy to just drag UI components onto the canvas and move things around or delete things as you need. Its alignment tools are basic and good enough to get the job done. I would use Figma when I get to the prototype stage where colors, precise layouts and looks matter more.

Balsamiq is a great tool for quickly getting ideas into visual form. At first it seems like there are not that many UI assets, but this constraint actually adds to the speed. There are less things for you to fuss over, you can focus on getting your ideas down. This is a tool for lofi rough drawings not a tool for building beautiful prototypes for developers to code to. It is fantastic for ideation because you mostly just drag and drop components onto the canvas and move things around. It's great in a live workshop setting for that reason.

Using Balsamiq

I don't have anyone in my organization to support Balsamiq. It's so easy to use, that I can't imagine needing support.
  • Quickly creating and editing wireframes for discussion
  • Package and send wireframes to clients in various formats
  • Clients markup wireframes to communicate changes or verify changes
  • Visually document ideas for React components
  • I used it to mock up a card game
  • I'd like to load up some custom icons and see if I can use it to mockup software and network architecture
Balsamiq is just so simple, intuitive and fast at creating wireframes. It has just the right amount of UI elements to get the job done without weighing you down with decision fatigue. If you really need something that is not there, you can either draw or import your own elements. I also like the way that you can organize your assets for reuse.
