Overall Satisfaction with Cisco 4000 Series Integrated Services Routers (ISR 4000)

We have 10-12 buildings that are up to 5 miles apart. We are running quite a few subsidiary businesses, like a Credit Union, a Technology Center, a Golf Course, Two K-12 schools and more. Because of the variation of business models and their specific needs, the Cisco 4000 Series Integrated Services Routers (ISR 4000) helps keep WAN robust for our K-12 schools cloud-based O365 applications. The two schools are constantly needing new cloud-based tools and educational tools that require reliable WAN performance for testing and teaching to remote students in South America.

Pros

  • Reduces operating expenses for a controlled K-12 school budgets.
  • Our Cloud Apps run with great WAN speed efficiency
  • Provides a robust network management between 2 K-12 schools

Cons

  • Need a simpler CLI
  • A better way to summarize errors (Boot errors specifically)
  • Need more right now metrics when multiple performance issues arise
  • Has greatly aided Op-ex total monthly expenses
  • Network management for 2 of our buildings has been simplified
  • It has aided in firewall and security protections.
The Cisco 4000 Series Integrated Services Routers (ISR 4000) has been easy to manage so far. It has been performing well for a long time. We have a small IT staff that manages 10-12 buildings, many switches and routers and firewalls. It is great to be able to use the Cisco 4000 Series Integrated Services Routers (ISR 4000) for our K-12 schools. It allows us to keep the two school networks separated from the rest of the network infrastructure.
As compared to a FortiGate Fortinet router, the Cisco 4000 Series Integrated Services Routers (ISR 4000) is a simpler appliance. It provides some of the same services for WAN, Internet, and security, but at a lesser footprint. The Cisco 4000 Series Integrated Services Routers (ISR 4000) does the job for a simpler network, like with our K-12 schools. The FortiGate Fortinet router costs a whole lot more, but is considered a next generation device. That means it has more advanced SD-WAN options. But if budget is your number one concern, you want great devices that do the job, but may not have the latest bells and whistles.
