Overall Satisfaction with Cisco ASA

We used the Cisco ASA to provide Internet connectivity to our office, as well as protecting our organization from viruses and malware. It allowed us to work remotely by setting up a VPN. We were able to maintain a reliable connection and allowed our organization to conduct business efficiently.
  • Providing protection against viruses and malware.
  • Easy to use VPN setup and connection.
  • Straightforward interface for configuration of firewall rules.
  • Yearly support is not cost-effective.
  • Web interface uses outdated Java plug-in.
  • Learning curve to learn the full capability of the ASA.
  • Hardware is reliable as with most Cisco products.
  • Provides security that will prevent viruses and malware from penetrating your network.
  • Yearly updates and support are costly, so be prepared to include that in your budget when making the decision to go with the Cisco ASA.
Cisco ASA is one of the more reliable security/firewall appliances on the market. Other products that I have used include; Fortinet and Sonicwall. Fortinet is an excellent alternative because it has many features, is easy to configure, and priced competitively vs the Cisco ASA. The Cisco VPN puts it over the top when choosing which appliance to go with.

Cisco ASA is well suited in most environments. They have a model that is sized for all situations from small, medium, or large corporations, to data centers. For smaller businesses on a budget, there are less expensive alternatives that will also get the job done. However, if you are looking for a reliable product, then the ASA should be at the top of your list.
