Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Catalyst Switches
- Catalyst 2960 X/XR Series
- Catalyst 2960-L Series
They work much efficiently on loop avoidance for a layer 2 frame broadcast storm by using an internal STP (Spanning Tree Protocol). It helps my organisation to make frames move in the correct LAN. We are'nt having a big organization , we work in a SOHO (small office home office) and comparatively other vendors switches I prefer to work with the friendly CLI of CISCO catalyst switches.
- Internal STP and loop avoidance for avoiding the broadcast storm
- In STP election, at first, every device in the loop says "I am the root, with this BridgeID". And then the STP election happens to elect the Root Bridge, root ports, blocked ports, designated port (dr), backup dr.
- VLAN functionality we can create 4096 Virtual LANs in a Switch, which can be used to separate the different departments for an organization.
- Avoids the Broadcast Storming using STP (Spanning Tree Protocol)
- It can Block the vacant port of the Switch using BPDUGuard and PortFast so that the other outsider person cannot sniff into the network.
- VLAN partitioning , but up to 4096 vlans can be created
- VTP Virtual Trunking Protocol is used to make a trunk between a Client Switch and a Controller Switch (Cisco Switches), Controller switches make idempotent to a Client Switch and have the count of changes in the Client Switch if any changes made from Controller
- I think Cisco catalyst switches have only 24 ports which I aspect to be increased to 48 ports such that it won't make unnecessary use of buying two Cisco 24 ports if we have 48 ports CISCO catalyst 2900 Switches
- And Productive Cost for CISCO Catalyst is very high , and I know they are making huge efforts in putting costlier devices into their SD-WAN solution Viptela .
- Good frame broadcast efficiency
- VLAN separation for private LANs
- Loop avoidance using STP to avoid frame broadcast storming
Cisco Catalyst 2960-L Series Switches are designed to enable time-saving automation, greater scale with virtualization, and analytics. We use automation techniques like Python3 (using socket, netmiko, sys, request, telnet, ssh etc, packages), Ansible for device configuration. Since Ansible is an agent-less automation tool it doesn't require any of the login/signup formalities, it only requires while connecting to the device that when login in to the Switch/Routers. Ansible performs with Idempotency, which means it will change where the changes will be required.
Yes, my organization is currently working with all these new emerging technologies, and we are putting our all efforts into learning the new technologies every day.
Cisco Switches are quite well at handling the layer 2 frames in a network.
