SMB Cisco Catalyst Happy User
Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Catalyst Switches
- Catalyst 2960 X/XR Series
- Catalyst 2960-L Series
- Catalyst 3650 Series
Cisco Catalyst switches provide access layer and distribution layer access for our campus network in both locations. It is adopted organization-wide adopted by IT several years ago. The business problem it solved is having network access for internet to cloud SaaS products and on-property data center resources that are hosted.
Pros
- Support through TAC
- Reliable and predictable
- Scripting
Cons
- Cost
- Learning curve for non networking users.
- Network reliability
- Network scale
- Networking health
We are not at the scale to use virtual Cisco switches but do love the automation ability with scripting ourselves, we do not have the scale right now to use Cisco DNA but instead, use CI/CD tools and scripts to provide an acceptable level of automation for our scale and size.
We have not had the chance to use Cisco DNA or any other manageability tools built into Cisco. We are a medium-sized business that only has 40 switches networks wide so the process that we have in place now is working. We have been looking at Cisco DNA as a future investment to consolidate some processes and to save time but other initiatives have taken priority with COVID 19.
We had HPE Procurve and previous to that 3COM Super Stack switches. We liked Cisco better because as our network became more critical the support and reliability of Cisco were very important to us. The ability also to be kept up-to-date with emerging trends in the industry, as well as flexible options for scripting and automation were important to us in our choice.
