Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Catalyst Switches

  • Catalyst 2960 X/XR Series
  • Catalyst 2960-L Series
  • Catalyst 3650 Series
[Cisco Catalyst Switches] provide network access to just about every end-user network device - a PoE VoIP phone, a computer, security IP camera, ETC. They are in our main data center, MDF's and IDF's in all of our buildings throughout the company. Without them, our business would not be able to function as it does now.
  • They are extremely stable and reliable
  • Extremely easy to manage once you are familiar with Cisco IOS
  • They are probably on the higher end as far as costs
  • Some IOS firmware upgrades can get a bit hairy
  • They let the business communicate
  • I can't imagine business continuing without network connectivity
I've generally used the SNMP from a 3rd party monitoring solution, at one company we've implemented some security features such as 802.1X that was natively supported on the Cisco Catalyst switches. ISE integration so that we can log in with our Window AD accounts. Certainly integrated PoE has been a huge help with powering Wireless access points, VoIP phones and security cameras. I can't think of any other more advanced features.
Obviously still in the Cisco family but the Meraki switches offer trade off of being much easier to manage off-site from a cloud based management system, but you do not get the same advanced features of the Cisco Catalyst switches.

Do you think Cisco Catalyst Switches delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Cisco Catalyst Switches's feature set?

Yes

Did Cisco Catalyst Switches live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Cisco Catalyst Switches go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Cisco Catalyst Switches again?

Yes

I honestly can't imaging not using Cisco Catalyst Switches. I've used them exclusively in the last 4 places where I have worked. Yes, the can be pricey as compared to other vendors. We've found at places where we have no IT support, such as smaller remote offices, Cisco Meraki switches do become a good option as they are much easier to manage remotely.
