Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Catalyst Switches

  • Catalyst 3850 Series
  • Catalyst 9300 Series
Cat 3850/9300 are mainly used for Access, but on smaller branches also for Distribution.

Pros

  • Roubust & long lived
  • Good preformance

Cons

  • Startup time
  • Software stabillity
  • Pricing
"Anything" needed is possible, whereas other vendors might have limitation on number of features or instances that can be created.
Already have a large installed Cisco base, but am evaluating a shift.

Do you think Cisco Catalyst Switches delivers good value for the price?

No

Are you happy with Cisco Catalyst Switches's feature set?

Yes

Did Cisco Catalyst Switches live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Cisco Catalyst Switches go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Cisco Catalyst Switches again?

Yes

Cisco 4000 Series Integrated Services Routers (ISR 4000), Cisco ASA 5500-X with FirePOWER Services
Good fit for large scale companies, but low port density applications will be costly.
Due to immature software in initial releases not suitable for mission critical 24/7 applications, since upgrades won't be allowed on a frequent schedule.
