Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Nexus Series Switches

We use NxK's for datacenterswitching. They are reliable - but not the software (NX OS) isn't completely without bugs. We currently see N9K as both our current and future platform. For now we only run NX OS, but look forward to migrate into ACI or maybe NDFC in the near future.
  • High speed dataswitching
  • Fairly easy to administer in CLI
  • Stable
  • Good looking ;-)
  • NX OS is way cooler than CatOS
  • Easier visual access to hardware information (MAC-addr / SN / PN, etc) Servers has a cool plastic label to be pulled out in the front to get essential information. Cisco has a label on top of chassis, which is impossible to see when installed in rack.
  • Ability to locate a certain switch - just like switchport beacon. Maybe flashing logo/hostname on front AND back when enabled.
  • Lower prices.
  • Fast switching
  • Stability
  • SW bugs causing outage in production
  • Overall stability (N9K) is good
  • High price
I didn't choose Cisco Nexus. Cisco Nexus was already a part of the production, when I arrived at my current workplace.

Do you think Cisco Nexus Series Switches delivers good value for the price?

Not sure

Are you happy with Cisco Nexus Series Switches's feature set?

Yes

Did Cisco Nexus Series Switches live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Cisco Nexus Series Switches go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Cisco Nexus Series Switches again?

Yes

Fairly stable and easy to operate - but I haven't any experience with other brands, so I don't have anything to compare with.
Fairly fast in the OS.
Easy to upgrade - but with some SW issues. Sometimes clearing of log folders is needed.
Access to bash is cool.
Tips & cool tricks for operations could be nice to share.

Cisco Nexus Series Switches Training

If you know CatOS, then NXOS isn't that hard to learn. Yes, I'd recommend to get hands on experience as well as get training. Personally I prefer onsite training - or at least not online training, which normally isn't very good. It's best to be at a training center, where you can meet and talk to others.
