Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Secure Firewall

We have several in our agency on the egress to protect our edge in several locations.

Pros

  • Keeps everything in single pain of glass
  • Has easy to use GUI
  • Secures the network very well

Cons

  • Licensing should only be charged on one in a fail over pair
  • Nat building is difficult
  • Deployment time to long
  • Updates take forever
  • Blocks well
  • Easily managed in fmc
  • Site to site
  • Any connection
The only problem we noticed is having these features turned on causes a large amount of overhead which causes connections to be slower over the VPN people connected with gigabyte home internet connections to our agency 10gb device is slow compared to people testing home internet on speed test. With VPN connected it is 2mb maybe to agency.
Support from Cisco TAC sucks most of the time once in a while you will get a good technical response but those are far and few between.
We use VPN and like mentioned before the speed to our agency is slow when all security features are enabled even though the device purchased should be able to handle it.

These are good devices but the fact you need to license both devices in a failover pair makes the cost of ownership almost to expensive for our agency. This is the largest downfall due to other agencies do not get the budget they use to when it comes to malware URL filtering.

Cisco Security

Security plays a huge role in our agency due to high compliance with federal and state controls, such as CJIS, NIST, to name a couple.
Originally it was cost and local 3rd party vendor assistance as we are a small it shop that has gotten assistance with deployment of newer Cisco hardware.
Due to knowledge of device and familiar with the brand and local support from 3rd party vendors for the support we required. Now that Cisco is no longer the primary device in the field and may not longer even be best in class for firewalls.
We are a government agency and unable to currently use ai and will be unable to use it anytime. This may change later, but at this point we are limited until we get different instructions.
