Cisco Spaces in Higher Education
Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Spaces
Our primary use case for Cisco Spaces it correlate information for problems in our environment. Giving us location and density information for our users in a location that helps paint a better diagnostic picture of the location. Seeing an access point with 50 users associated with it and then seeing it on a map. Often times realizing that we add another AP in a space that users are actually in (filling the gaps) allows a visual feed back to the situation beyond the data and what the users are telling us (If anything).
Pros
- User Density and usage
- Finding lost or missing devices.
- Visualization of where users are using our network.
Cons
- Depending on the size of your deployment it could be quite daunting for LARGE organizations during initial setup.
- Positive impact on physical security and location of problem devices.
- Negative that on our scale with a small staff it is hard to really leverage all the features.
We have multiple times used the location analytics and the asset locator. The Asset locator has to be most valuable as we have seen cases where people say a device has gone missing and we locate in the adjacent office or a break room where they left it.
Gives it a complete picture and management platform to provide better services to our users.
Primary realization is just how many people carry personal devices that connect to our wireless. Give us a better picture of the flow of people in and around buildings.
This doesn't really apply for our organization.
