Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Commvault Complete Backup & Recovery is used across the organization as the Enterprise Backup solution.

Pros and Cons

Automation like workflow.
Ease of use, less complexity.
Excellent support, very pro-active.
Leaders in the backup realm.

Additional workflow template and not so much the canned reports that comes with it.
Pricing, it does get pricey when you start adding new features not purchased before hand.
Licensing structure, should be more flexible especially in for an enterprise level customers.

Return on Investment

It is an integral part of our DR plan.
It's been proven that we are able to bring back data during times of data corruption.
It provides mitigating features to cover compliancy.

During the time we evaluated Backup Exec (pre 2007) the indexing engine was so complex and limited and would have to stand up 2-3 isolated stance of the indexing database just to cover our data center environment. This solution is not cost effective and complexity is through the roof. Commvault Complete Backup & Recovery was just easier to manage and the setup is pretty straight forward given that you do your homework and pre-plan your environment needing backups.

Support Rating

Commvault Complete Backup & Recovery support is a Gold Standard for us. We are a ESP customer and have a designated Support Account Manager (SAM) & a Technical Account Manager (TAM) who we meet with every other week to go over any existing issues and upcoming version revisions release. But of course not all companies or organization will need this type of level of support but we have proven that this works for us due to the shear size of our environment and the number of offices we support.

Commvault Complete Backup & Recovery is best suited for a large environment that is hybrid and a mix bag of applications, storage devices, and operating system. It's really a good fit like our environment where we are in a transition of physical to virtual and on-prem to Cloud provider. Commvault Complete Backup & Recovery really covers these arenas really well.

I believe it's less appropriate for a small SMB that does need not a robust backup infrastructure due to cost.
