Overall Satisfaction with Conga Composer

Our use case has been supporting end users in generating various items, from emails to letters to reports, in Word, Excel, and PDFs. Conga addresses the issue of controlling output formatting while additionally allowing us to pull data from various sources through SQL.

Pros

  • Pull data from different sources via SOQL
  • Allow for highly customized output in any Microsoft Office application.
  • Convert to Pdfs.

Cons

  • Support merges with a significant number of queries.
  • Ability to quickly summarize merge fields within templates without individually inspecting.
  • Embed CSS in email templates.
  • Saved time on document generation.
  • Reduced errors by end users.
  • Gave greater control to head office staff in designing.
We've been using the product for over a decade, so we're fluent in creating complex solutions without the assistance of their newer helpful tools. If you're fluent in SOQL and general mail merge practices, it should be fairly easy to build basic templates and then more complex ones.
It has allowed us to really think through processes and build out the required solutions that end users can use moving forward. This has aided both existing and newer staff in quickly adopting new versions of existing processes and new processes, as little effort was required on their part.

It is well suited to corporate environments where the native merge functionality within Salesforce is not robust enough. It doesn't support automation solutions well unless you're willing to buy additional Trigger add-ons. It does require a well-versed administrator for more complex scenarios, but if you have this, you can do nearly anything.
