Overall Satisfaction with Control-M

Control-M is one of key application used to automate many infrastructure services in our organization. This has been used to schedule batch jobs, shell scripts, DB jobs and many file transfers across organization. This helped during merging process to sync large amount of data securely between two organizations. We are yet to explore the cloud based solutions from BMC Control-M.

Pros

  • Managed File Transfer is a outstanding module to resolve secure file sharing.
  • Changing to web based interface in v9.0.21 is very useful to access outside organization and perform self service actions.
  • Cross platform support is the biggest asset of Control-M

Cons

  • supporting multiple hosts in a single file transfer will be helpful to reduce no.of configuration profile creation.
  • Providing early patches for the bugs identified whenever new version launched.
  • Adding a feature to view SERVER or EM logs from CCM
  • It definitely reduced the manual tasks which resulted in less man hours when compared to manual execution
  • Accurate and serial submission of tasks where there is a chance for human error if it run manually
  • Great support during DR Switching activity to get the services online with less RTA
This is because of the flexibility and support provided by Control-M in the automation world. As Control-M provides centralized monitoring system, it makes the operations team work easy to monitor and escalate the issues in a very quick time. The ease of the tool usage is a biggest advantage apart from the outstanding features of the tool.

It is particularly helped us using the file transfer module while integration. It is very well suits for cross platform dependencies.

If you are using CRON or Windows scheduler for simple tasks then its not advisable to switch to Control-M as it provides many features and required initial setup of agents and other necessary pre-requisites.
