Overall Satisfaction with Control-M

Control-M is currently used to keep an orderly flow of jobs scheduled in the company, whether they are on Windows, AIX, Linux OS, etc. The scope of the product is very broad since this tool is used daily, and we work with more than 2000 jobs.

Pros

  • Job chains.
  • Folder structure for different jobs.
  • Forecast is very useful to know if the planning has been good.
  • The history is very easy and attractive to check.

Cons

  • Improvements must be made in the area of ​​machine balancing.
  • They need to improve their processes against Windows machines.
  • The issue of launching scripts that require a graphical interface on the target machine.

20 - This application launches all the company's internal jobs. It is our main program for launching jobs in all departments, as it is very useful to create links between all types of jobs and machines. We are currently very happy with this application; it works correctly on Windows, Linux, or AIX machines.
I have used other tools for this type of programming, and they do not offer the same level of flexibility as CTM. It is very useful when creating chains and cycles, so it is also worth highlighting the option to view the jobs that are going to be launched on a certain day.
We use the Windows Task Scheduler for all those tasks that CTM cannot handle. The problem we are having is when working with foreground software. When something is launched from CTM, it considers it to be in the background and is not able to interact with tools that require a direct interface.

The truth is that I find this tool very powerful. The fault I am seeing is that the integration with Windows is not very good. It seems to be set up more to work with background processes, and the part about interacting with the machine in the foreground is still poorly defined. We have also detected some other problems when launching a job that works directly with Python libraries since we see that it cannot work correctly with said libraries, causing false positives that bother us quite a bit.
